This mean that almost everything is connected to internet. Cars, houses, coffee machine, smartwatch, smartband, bikes etc… All connected objects generate data, and the first step, is to collect these data. Because we can do something with these data. But before doing something with these data, they need to be transmitted, through cellular or non cellular network. Cellular network, you all know this, 2G, 3G, LTE and so on. Non cellular, Wifi, Bluetooth, Lora, ZigBee, Sigfox etc… Once these data are transmitted, you can imagine that there is a tremendous quantity of data. That’s what we call big data. To give you a representation, if we had to store the equivalent of data generated in one day on earth, this will represent 10 million Blu-ray discs that, stacked, would represent the height of 4 Eiffel Tower ... By 2025, we will have 27Bn of connections. Those connections are split in 2 typologies. Cellular and non cellular. Cellular connections, as mentioned before, are technologies based on 2G/3G/LTE or NB IoT. It will represent more than 2 Bn of connections with a compound annual growth rate of 18%/ Then we have the non cellular connections, with technologies like Bluetooth, Sigfox, LoRa, ZigBee, Wifi and so on. Challenges of IoT market in Transport area Connectivity Identity Security 3 pillars of Safran Identity & Security As said before, we will have more than 2Bn cellular connections. This mean that we need a solution to bring connectivity to devices and objects. It’s a huge challenge. We have customers where connectivity 24/7 is a requirement. They cannot lose the connection between their objects and the network, otherwise, they will simply loose their objects on the field. Moreover, the next generation of smartphone will be equiped with an embedded SIM (I’ll explain on the next slide what is an eSIM), but to make it short, we are talking about a reprogrammable SIM card. That it’s to say that, in the coming months, smartphones will come with an eSIM. Today, if I need a subscription, I’m going to a MNO POS buy a SIM card. Tomorrow, SIM card will be not distributed anymore by customer. This mean that Mobile Network Operator need a solution in order to continue their core work: selling connectivity.
