June: National Hunger Awareness Month June is National Hunger Awareness Month, which addresses the struggle children face during the summer without school-provided meals. This month encourages Americans to get educated about and involved in ending hunger in the US. “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” -Mother Teresa Importance In 2013, 49.1 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 33.3 million adults and 15.8 million children. 14.5 percent of U.S. households struggle to put enough food on the table. More than 48 million Americans—including 15.9 million children—live in these households Only two federal programs—National School Lunch Program and Summer Food Service Program— provide meals to kids during the summer months, when they are at higher risk of hunger.

Information found at www.FeedingAmerica.org One in every two babies born in the United States is enrolled in WIC– a hunger aid program geared toward women, infants, and children. Over 20 million children receive free or reduced-price lunch each school day. Less than half of them get breakfast, and only 10% have access to summer meal sites. Information found at www.FeedingAmerica.org Celebrities Anna Faris and Will Forte at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help with a nationwide food-packing event
