Workshop Brazil – EU on Cluster x Cluster Cooperation 14th November 2012 Biocat is a private non profit foundation, founded in Its creation was fostered by both the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona Local Council. The objective of Biocat when it was created was to enable the interactions between the public and private sectors, as well as offer the possibility of gain access to other funding programs apart from those of the Catalan Government Biocat is a small size organization that nowadays employs 19 people, whose budget is around 3 million Euros per year (1,1 of which came from regional Government) Biocat is the Catalan organization that coordinates and promotes biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technologies in Catalonia. Its mission is to boost all the agents of this environment and their initiatives, so that we have an ecosystem with strong innovation systems, active technology and knowledge transfers and an entrepreneurial business fabric that acts as economic driver of the country and contributes to society welfare..
