Grapefruit Diet This diet is based off a claim that the grapefruit has a fat-burning enzyme. This diet is strict in terms of foods to eat. The dieter must eat grapefruit or grapefruit juice with every meal and avoid any added sugars. With this diet, the dieter must also eat high amounts of protein and fats to compensate for the missing carbohydrates. Claim: Lose 10 pounds in two weeks! This is because of the enzyme found in grapefruit that reduces appetite and increases weight loss Quackery: Lose 10 pounds in two weeks!

Nutrition This diet does not fully meet the nutrient requirements for myself. I am lacking in carbohydrates, vitamins D, E, K, Folate and Thiamin. I am also lacking in calcium, potassium, iron and magnesium. I am over in my protein and borderline over in my fat intake.

Benefits/Risks Benefits: There are not any benefits from this diet because of the low amount of calories consumed and the lack of nutrition. Risks : Cutting calories too low, missing nutrients from diet, and grapefruit juice can interact with medications Do not recommend this diet for anyone trying to lose weight.
