Risk Assessment Process What is the purpose? To identify hazards? To identify vulnerability? To identify frequency? To evaluate the realisation of loss? To assess success of mitigation? To assess the impact of new mitigation? To allow for comparisons of between all the above? To decide on the allocation of funds?

CAMP’s RISK ASSESSMENT Purpose: To assess the potential threat of a specific hazard. Methodology: Through interactive participatory workshop held in the community by technical experts.

(Intensity* Frequency) The Risk Assessment Hazard Type and Location: Relevant Past Disasters Hazard Triggers (Social / Env) Existing Mitigation Hazard Assessment Vulnerability Assessment Mitigation Proposals (Hard / Soft) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Intensity: High Medium Low Comment: Frequency: High Hazard (Intensity* Frequency) People Killed: ________ People Injured: ________ Houses Destroyed: ________ Houses Damaged: ________ Schools: ________ Health Facilities: ________ Govt Facilities: ________ Mosques: ________ Animals Killed: ________ Pasture Destroyed: ________ Orchards Destroyed: ________ Road Damaged: ________ Electricity Destroyed: ________ Drinking Water: ________ Other: : ________ High / Med / Low New Risk Rating Risk Assessment (Hazard * Vulnerability) High / Medium / Low

Criteria: Low - 1-10 years Medium - 10-30 years High 30 < years Frequency : Low - 1-10 years Medium - 10-30 years High 30 < years Intensity: High loss of life, several building damaged beyond repair Medium people injured, houses damaged but repairable, loss of water or electric supply, road damaged beyond repair, loss of animal life. Low No one injured, loss of agricultural land, road temporarily blocked.

The Likelihood of the Hazard Occurring Frequency Intensity High Medium Low

Vulnerability Vulnerability: Next Step: Development of a cost criteria for the potential loss. (Annex 9 - MECO) High loss of life, several building damaged beyond repair Medium people injured, houses damaged but repairable, loss of water or electric supply, road damaged beyond repair, loss of animal life. Low No one injured, loss of agricultural land, road temporarily blocked.

Final Result Hazard Vulnerability High Medium Low

Usage CAMP Kuhiston - Nurobod Oxfam – Khatlon Region Caritas – Mumimobod, Shurobod, Khovoling Acted – Khatlon Region Designed to work with the MECO – The MECO was designed as a Comparative Risk Assessment between villages, but does not provide a specific in depth analysis of the cause of risk or vulnerability.
