” “People are the reason for and the means of polycentric development” A participatory Methodology

A METHODOLOY TO ENSURING THE PARTECIPATION OF LOCAL COMMUNITY IN THE STRATEGIC PLANIFICATION The Inflowence participation methodology is a methodology for ensuring that the local development plans or integrated projects are build taking into account the key issues of the territory and incorporating a participation strategy that has involved a wide range of stakeholders

WHY A PARTICIPATORY METHODOLOGY We think that the main reason of the unsuccessful outcome of many local development programmes is the way how still today the planning proposals are drawn up. So we think it is necessary to define a strategy and a methodology that can help the local governance and the planners to draw up programmes and projects addressed to the most important issues and needs of the local community. Through participation, local communities can chart the course of their own destinies in collaboration with the local government and the planners.

INNOVATIVE ASPECTS Bifore the participation workshop we have to do: Mapping and analyses of the context in relation with the topic and the geographic scope of the participation process and the development project/programme (set of datas) Definition of the legislative-jurisdictional and social context in relation with the decisions that will be made during the participation process. Presentation of the analyses to the local community and

Organization of the participation event in two different sessions: forum and interactive session Forum: During forum the participants will share information about the geographic, economic and social context in relation with the topic and the territorial scope of the programme/project. This session will include the presentation of good practices of local development and innovation related to the proposed programme/project.

Interactive session: Identification of the territory’s problems Interactive session: Identification of the territory’s problems. Design future scenarios (two kinds of scenarios: How will my city be in 10 years with today’s trend? How would I like my city to be in the next future? Catastrophic scenarios and idyllic scenarios).
