Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017 Prepare for Online Testing Prepare Testing Environment pg. 27 (TA Manual 3-5 & 6-8), pgs. 26-27 (TA Manual EOC) Ensure that students have reviewed the student tutorial for the online testing system Make sure you have testing tickets prior to administration Testing tickets must contain: Student Name Unique User Name and Password Session ID Embedded Supports, if applicable Must be stored in a secure location STAAR Online: Make every effort to prevent students from seeing one another’s monitor Ensure that there is one pair of headphones per student for online administrations Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017

Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017 Prepare the Testing Environment Prepare Testing Environment pg. 28 (TA Manual 3-5 & 6-8), pg. 27 (TA Manual EOC) Prepare rooms Sufficiently separate students Hang a “Testing Do Not Disturb” sign on the door All bulletin boards and instructional displays that might be a source of direct answers should be covered Clocks (either analog or digital) in the testing room All desks or computers used for testing must be cleared of books and other materials not required for the test. Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017 Directions Directions must be read aloud word for word. The “SAY” directions are in bold. The words in italics are information meant for you and should not be read aloud to students. STAAR Online Grade 3-5 pgs. 73-79 (Complete Online Administration Process pgs. 37- 38) STAAR Online Grade 6-8 pgs. 59-66 (Complete Online Administration Process pgs. 37- 38) STAAR Online EOC pgs. 58-65 (Complete Online Administration Process pgs. 36- 37) Directions regarding moving through the test and accessing the tools have been deleted from the manual, condensed, and embedded into the online system (about 5 screens of instruction) for students to access independently ALL students taking STAAR Online should have accessed the tutorials and are familiar with the online system prior to testing Place a sticky note or flag on the appropriate set of directions Students still have a four hour time limit unless they have “Extra Time” as an accommodation. Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017 Q & A- Can the test administrator set up the student’s online settings or can a “reminder card” with the student’s preferences be provided to each student? This question is in regards to the settings in the Accessibility Features, specifically the text-to-speech speed and volume, the zoom size, and the color and contrast options The Test Administrator may NOT set up the student’s accommodation preferences nor can the Test Administrator require a student to use the preferences determined during the tutorials However, a Test Administrator may provide the student with a “reminder card or preference sheet” that indicates the settings the student prefers as determined during the tutorial session. The student must be allowed to determine whether he or she uses these settings when taking STAAR Online Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017

How many typed characters are allowed for the written composition? The character count for written compositions and short answer questions: 1,750 for all written compositions Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017

Basic Transcribe For 4th Grade: Student can write their essay on a sheet of paper Prior to submitting the test, a TA must come over and type the essay into the computer. (if there are several transcribes, additional TA’s will be needed to complete this task) The student should be with the TA while the essay is being typed. The student needs to verify the essay has been transcribed correctly. The essay must be typed exactly as the student wrote it (punctuation, capitalization, and spelling included) The TA can only ask the student to read a word if the spelling is unclear. The student can’t revise or make changes when the TA is transcribing into the computer After the essay is typed, the test must be submitted

Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017 Before the end of Test When Students are finished and get to the Section Review: Have them raise their hand before submitting TA should ensure the student is not submitting a blank test If student has not completed the test questions, use the statement “You have not recorded your answers in the computer. Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017 Submit Online Test Submit the Test Once a student has submitted a test, the student will no longer be active in the test session and cannot access the test with his or her student test ticket The following steps submit the test and end the session for a student: On the Review/End page of the test, click End Test. Check the “I understand I cannot return to the test” box. Select the Submit and End Test button Test Administrators should remind students that they should not click the Submit and End Test button until they have finished the test. Once a test is submitted, it cannot be restarted by the Test Administrator Collect the student authorization form (return to the CTC) Collect all scratch paper (return to the CTC) Online Test Administrator Training Spring 2017
