Middle School Action Plan 2011-2012 Continue the after school MCAS tutorial program on Thursdays beginning September 29, 2011. Extend the in-school MCAS tutorial classes to begin in term 2.

Middle School Action Plan 2011-2012   Create more level 1(accelerated) in grades 6, 7 & 8 to provide greater access to a more rigorous math curriculum. Grade 6 – Schedules were realigned to create 3 sections of accelerated math on each team (previously there were 2). Grade 7 – Schedules were realigned to create 5 sections of pre-algebra (previously there were 3). Grade 8 – There are 3 sections of algebra offered in grade 8.

Middle School Action Plan 2011-2012 Create a 7th grade non pre-algebra math program that is a mix of the current program and pre-algebra in order to prepare all grade 7 students for algebra in grade 8. Bring the district math coach to support middle school math teachers as they improve their practices and incorporate new curriculum. Reduce class sizes in order to support our special education students in math and English.

Middle School Action Plan 2011-2012 Increase the ELL teacher at the middle school to full time to support our second language students. Continue to use the “Writing with Colors” program in ELA. Continue to use “Light Up the Problem” program in math.

Middle School Action Plan 2011-2012 Analyze the data from ELA Acuity testing and Math Acuity testing during middle school professional development early release days. Create more interdisciplinary opportunities for students to explore the areas of weakness identified on the ELA MCAS exam.

Middle School Action Plan 2012-2013 All grade 7 students will take pre-algebra at either an accelerated or regular pace. All grade 8 students will take algebra at either an accelerated or regular pace. All ELA and math teachers will meet and ensure that the math & ELA program 5-8 is aligned with the common core standards for English Language Arts and math.

Middle School Action Plan Develop and pilot new two new technology/engineering units (grade 7 and grade 8) that incorporate the design process as well as use of basic hand tools. Augment the science curriculum in 8th grade to stress conservation of mass and heat transfer. Expand Science Scene to include more students.

Middle School Action Plan Science Scene – 35 students came to at least one of the three sessions that were held after school. Most came to more than one. The students were mixed as far as how they were doing in science. Every science teacher participated on his or her 'review day'. The students scored as follows: Advanced 5% Proficient 60% Needs Improvement 31% Warning 2%

High School Action Plan Examine all 8th grade data since the spring 2010 MCAS results and write Educational Proficiency Plans (EPPs) to address critical areas for students. Continue daily MCAS test taking strategies Develop school wide writing rubrics and use of common writing strategies across all disciplines Continue to integrate test-taking strategies in lessons and assessments

High School Action Plan Analyze previous MCAS results to identify students’ strengths and challenges Analyze item analysis report summaries to identify areas to improve based on curriculum strands and standards Review sessions will be held before the biology retests in February and June test dates

High School Action Plan Biology teachers plan and revise curriculum based on the standards and any changes made in those standards. Teachers inform their practice by examining the released questions
