Paid Parental Leave Utilization: U of MN – “parental leave may begin at a time requested by the employee, but no later than six weeks after the birth or adoption and no sooner than two weeks before the birth…” Hennepin County – “paid parental leave must be used within 12 weeks of the employee’s approved leave of absence following the qualifying event. Any unused paid parental leave at the end of the 12-week period will be forfeited. Brooklyn Park – “leave shall be taken within 12 weeks of the birth or placement of the child.” Minneapolis – “parental leave must be used in a solid block of time and run concurrently with any other leaves available under federal and state laws. The paid parental leave must be used within 12 weeks of the qualifying event…” St. Paul – “paid parental leave must be utilized within 12 weeks following the birth or adoption of a child.”
