On October 19th you will be taking the PSAT to: Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for post-secondary study. Evaluate how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of other test takers. Help prepare for the NEW SAT. You can become familiar with the types of questions, directions and the format of the NEW SAT.

One more reason to take the PSAT: It enters you into the competition for scholarships from National Merit Scholarship Corporation. We will discuss this more when we return your results in December/January but you can read about it on the “blue” side of your Official Student Guide.

PSAT/NMSQT Stands for: The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) Test will be given during school on Wednesday, October 19th to all Junior students including BCTC The district is paying for it. There is no need to register with College-Board. There will not be make-ups if you are not present that morning.

PSAT Test Format Refer to the “green” side of your Official Student Guide Tightly aligned with new SAT format (began in March) Reading Test Writing and Language Test Math Test

Scoring There have been many changes to the way this test is being scored. We will discuss this with you when we distribute your results. There is no penalty for guessing on this test.

The Counselors will be back in December/January to deliver your PSAT score report and explain your scores. In the meantime…
