GSGA WHO WE ARE and WHAT WE DO The Graduate Student Governance Association (GSGA) is an organization that strives to voice the concerns of graduate students, representing more than 10,0000 graduate students. GSGA serves graduate students by doing the following: Promoting academic (research and educational) goals Establishing effective communication among graduate students Serving as administrative and financial advisor to GSAs.

GSA Responsibilities Attend all general assembly meetings Represent your GSA Disseminate important information obtained from GSGA Hold at least one meeting per semester Meet with Campus Ambassador 1x/semester New Student Orientation/Welcome Committee Work

GSA Registration Before Friday, September 1st: Update Student Roster on CampusLink. (If applicable) Update Officer names on CampusLink, inform GSGA. Signed Verification Forms - To be dropped into the box outside the GSGA Office, 683 Steger. Registration related queries to be directed to the Vice President.

Group Budget GSAs in good standing will receive up to $300 for community building activities. Examples of community building activities: meetings, movie nights, sporting events… it’s up to you! New student orientation/welcome: $100 GSAs can also earn $140/committee representative Additional funding available for active groups upon request on FCFS basis. Pictures to be sent to the Vice President.

….Group Grants Continued Applications due at 5:00 p.m. on the date of deadline. Decisions within 7 calendar days. Soft copy + Hard copy, a must. Must have all required signatures and documents at the time of submission. Pictures to be sent to the Vice President.

Research Fellowship The Research Fellowship (RF) is a competitive award designed to assist individual graduate students in obtaining funds to further their research endeavors. Students may use the Research Fellowship to fund travel related to their research or purchase consumables or other research-related materials. This Fellowship is not intended for Conference. GSGA Funding Process Our funding primarily comes from SACUB (the Provost’s office, the Graduate School, and the Office of Research provide contributions) GSGA provides funding to graduate students and the GSAs for the following: Research Conferences Academic events Community building activities You must be a registered student from a registered GSA and in good standing to receive funding from GSGA.

GSGA Funding Process Funds are managed and disbursed by the treasurer and UC accounts payable. Funds do not roll over or lapse. The fiscal year ends on June 30th

How can l get access to my GSA funds? GSGA Funding Process How can l get access to my GSA funds? There are 3 ways: Reimbursements to individual payee (A114/A113 forms) Department pays and GSGA pays the department GSGA pays directly (through Catalyst) In all cases, Please fill out the reimbursement request form Similar procedure for Group grants/ Group budget awards

GSGA Funding Process Reimbursement request form must include: Original itemized receipts List of attendees Group Budget form Documents should be submitted in the A114 envelope within 14 of event/Purchase What can l purchase? Office supplies and materials Refreshments/snacks for meetings Tickets for games/movies (not to exceed 10$ per person)

GSGA Funding Process How do I access my conference travel award? Submit the following as soon as you get back from your conference: Original receipts Proof of conference presentation Current semester OneStop bill GSGA Travel Award Application Envelope Conference travel award application (Presenter/ Non-Presenter) Letter from advisor (Non-Presenter only) GSGA does not reimburse for food during your conference travels

Campus Ambassador: in charge of updating the GSGA website updating the GSGA social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram) updating the listserv promoting communication between the GSGA and the GSAs, and among different GSAs organizing events promoting opportunities for professional development

Promoting opportunities for professional development: - general assembly meetings - grad cafes Promoting communication between the GSGA and the GSAs, and between different GSAs: attend GSA meetings promoting more communication among GSAs in assembly meetings Share your ideas with me! (eg. donating clothes, etc.)

Promoting more communication among GSAs in assembly meetings: 4 GSAs presentations per general assembly meeting (2-5 minutes) Explain: - how many students do you have in your GSA? Are they involved? - where are you located? - what type of events do you celebrate throughout the year? - what did you spent your group budget award on last year (or in previous years)? - have you ever received a group grant award? - would your GSA like to collaborate with another GSA? - are your graduate students worried about a specific issue? Volunteers for our first general assembly meeting: CECH, Geology, HSGA, and Psychology!
