Minimum Class Requirements for Senior Year Students must be enrolled in at least 5 classes Minimum Senior Class requirement English Government/Economics (semester each) Credit recovery, APEX Hybrid on-line program Work on-line at home 24/7 Students check in weekly Computer lab available 2 times a week for support

A-G Requirements Required courses for the a CALIFORNIA PUBLIC bound 4-year university student Cal State (CSU) and UC System have same minimum requirements Private and out-of-state schools typically are very similar with some variance. Always have your student cross-check the requirements for these schools.

College Application Process 4-Year Bound Student Application workshops will be held throughout October and November Applications open on October 1st and close on November 30th for CSU Applications are OPEN for UC schools. Can’t submit until Nov 1. -UC apps: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply -CSU apps: www.csumentor.edu Private Schools vary-check their websites www.commonapplication.org

SAT and ACT Exams Needed for the 4-year bound student only Community college students do not need these exams The majority of universities will accept exams through December Students’ Responsibility to Check deadlines for their choice universities

REMAINING SAT / ACT EXAMS DATES SAT OCTOBER 1, NOVEMBER 5, DECEMBER 3 ACT SEPTEMBER 10, OCTOBER 22, DECEMBER 10 SAT Subjects OCTOBER 1, NOVEMBER 5*, DECEMBER 3 *Language w/ listening SUBJECT EXAMS REQUIRED FOR MANY PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND SPECIFIC MAJORS WITHIN THE UC SYSTEM. NOT ACCEPTED FOR CSU APPLICANTS TEST DATES IN BLUE ARE THE LAST EXAM SCORES ACCEPTED NCAA does require that a student take either the SAT or ACT.

Safe, Match,Stretch (“no problem, just right, dream) Safety School is a college that you will almost certainly get into because your test scores, class rank and / or high school grades are well above average when you look at the school's profile. Match School is a college that you are pretty likely to get into because your test scores, class rank and / or high school grades fall right into the middle range when you look at the school's profile. Reach School is a college that you have a chance of getting into, but your test scores, class rank and / or high school grades are a bit on the low side when you look at the school's profile.

Application Preparation UC application Essay Available on UC Website You will have 8 questions to choose from. You must respond to only 4 of the 8 questions. Each response is limited to a maximum of 350 words. Which questions you choose to answer is entirely up to you:  But you should select questions that are most relevant to your experience and that best reflect your individual circumstances. Requesting Letters of Recommendation Private Schools Only There is a process Students must provide a completed self evaluation provided by counseling Students must give a minimum of 2 weeks notice and the deadline to request a letter is November 18th, 2016

College Application Process for Community College Students Applications for Community College students take place during March/April Field Trips to Fullerton College and other surrounding community colleges will be available 2nd semester Application workshops will be held to assist filling out the applications www.cccapply.org

Scholarships/Financial Aid Scholarships are a year-long process -See the College and Career Center -www.fastweb.com -icanaffordcollege.com The financial aid process begins in November -Two types: government aid/school aid -Cal-Grants -FAFSA Application: www.fafsa.ed.gov (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) -Financial Aid Night-Nov 9th You apply for all Cal Grants when completing your FAFSA and having your school provide a verified GPA to CSAC. Selection is based on financial need, academic performance, and other factors. Cal Grant A is available to assist with registration fees for low- and middle-income students; for Cal Grant B, disadvantaged background is also considered; for Cal Grant C, vocational interest and aptitude are considered. You must apply for a Cal Grant by the March 2 deadline by filing your FAFSA and having your school submit your verified GPA. Basic Eligibility Requirements for All Cal Grant Programs All Cal Grant recipients must: Be a U.S. citizen, eligible noncitizen, or permanent resident; Be a California resident at the time of high school graduation and at the time you receive a Cal Grant; Meet U.S. Selective Service requirements; Enroll in and attend an eligible California university, college, or vocational school; Maintain no less than half-time enrollment status; Have financial need at an eligible California school; Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the school; Be in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate; Not have a bachelor’s degree or higher degree (e.g., MA) or the equivalent; Not exceed parent or student income or asset ceiling; Not owe a refund on any state or federal educational grant or have defaulted student loans. *

SENIORITIS Seniors start out strong at the beginning and slow down by the end Can become complacent Can become defensive -I’m going to be 18 soon! -I’m an adult! -I got my college acceptance, my second semester grades don’t matter!

Where to get academic HELP Instructors!! Set up a study groups Peer tutors may be available (counseling center) Don’t wait till your student is in a HOLE Credit recovery program is very limited

PARENTS Stay consistent! Keep in contact with teachers through e-mail or daily planner Use Parent Aeries Lost passwords? email passwords@auhsd.us Have your students get weekly progress reports from the teachers if necessary Communicate regularly with your student about their progress and what is happening in their lives Have Fun!!
