Honoring Latino Heritage Month AMAE/AEMP Art Contest Honoring Latino Heritage Month Sylvia Mendez-Separate is Never Equal by Duncan Tonatiuh The Association of Mexican American Educators, in partnership with the Academic English Mastery Program (LAUSD), will feature an art contest for AEMP schools in honor of Latino Heritage Month. Students who participate will design an original piece of visual art. See art entry guidelines for details. Each AEMP school is invited to conduct the Latino Heritage Month Art Contest between September 15-October 14, 2016. Schools will send the names and photos of (1) First place winner from the K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and/or 9-12 grade spans. From the pool of winning entries the AEMP program will select a Grand Prize Winner for each grade-level span. Art Entry Guidelines The Latino Heritage Month Art Contest is open to all students at Academic English Mastery Program schools. Each AEMP school is invited to conduct the Latino Heritage Month Art Contest between September 15-October 14, 2016. Schools will send the title page and a photo of (1) 1st Place winning entry from the K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, and/or 9-12 grade spans to javier.sanroman@lausd.net on or before 10/14/16 by 5:00 PM. From the pool of winning first place entries the AEMP program will select Grand Prize winners for each grade. The grand prize winners will be honored at the AMAE Statewide Conference in LA. Guidelines: Create a a portrait of a Latino or Latina who has taken a stand for social justice here in the United States. Create a title for the portrait containing the phrase _______ took a stand for__________. Medium can be mixed, watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen, pencil, crayon, chalk, or marker on any type of paper or canvas Artwork must be two-dimensional and must not exceed 24” X 48” Student’s original signature should be at the bottom right corner or on the back of the art piece Submission: Each art entry must include a completed title page and attached photo (pages 4 & 5) Do not submit the original artwork. AEMP will judge entries based on the title page and attached photo of the artwork (K-1) can receive assistance with filling out the Title page and Attached Photo page. Taking a good photo is important. You are encouraged to use this PowerPoint to insert the text and images for submission.
