The Terror Attack of September 11th 2001 “Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.” – President George W. Bush

Purpose of: The World Trade Centers / Pentagon WTC The Mission Statement: “The World Trade Centers Association stimulates trade and investment opportunities for commercial property developers, economic development agencies, and international businesses looking to connect globally and prosper locally”. serves as an worldwide gateway of global connections and integrated trade services. Seek to have a mark in the world of international trade and business Pentagon headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, located in Virginia, across Washington, D.C. Seen as a symbol of the U.S. military

Who is al- Qaeda? They are an international Islamist extremist terror network in the Middle East Founded in the later 80’s by Osama bin Laden Goals: Over through various governments in the Middle East that did not enforce a Muslim / Sharia Law government and society. Saw U.S. as a target, since the U.S. government supported many of these government's Our ally, Israel – the only democratic country in the Middle East – Israel also was al- Qaeda’s greatest enemy U.S. was preventing al – Qaeda from creating a pro global Islamic order Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

Why would al-Qaeda want to attack the Twin Towers, Pentagon,? Did not have the capacity to destroy the United States militarily so they targeted on symbolic targets instead. The Twin Towers, known to many as the centerpieces of the World Trade Center, symbolized globalization and America’s economic power and prosperity. attacking these symbols of American power, al-Qaeda would promote widespread fear throughout the country and severely weaken the United States’ standing in the world community ultimately supporting their political and religious goals in the Middle East and Muslim World.

The hijackers Nineteen terrorists hijacked four California-bound commercial airplanes 5 of the 19 hijackers board flight 11 -crashing into the North Tower through the 93rd-99th floor 5 of the 19 hijackers board flight 175 - Crashing into the South Tower through the 77th – 85th floor 5 of the 19 hijackers board flight 77 -Crashing into the Pentagon 4 of the 19 hijackers board flight 93 Crashing in a field near the town of Shanksville in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, The crash site is approximately 20 minutes’ flying time from Washington, D.C.

Twin Towers bombing 1993 The towers had been the target of an attack before 9/11. On February 26th, 1993, terrorists with links to an Islamist extremist group detonated explosives in a van parked underneath the world trade center Six people were killed and thousands were injured.

9/11/2001 The Twin Towers The hijacked Flight 11 was crashed into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m. The hijacked Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower 17 minutes later at 9:03 a.m. When the towers were struck, about 18,000 people were in the buildings. The majority of the workers where able to evacuate safely. As they rushed out, first responders rushed in trying to save those still trapped or injured. The fires from the impacts were intensified by the planes’ burning jet fuel. This weakened the steel support fixes, which attached each of the floors to the buildings’ exterior walls. This will caused both towers to utterly fall and collapse. Five other buildings in the WTC complex were also destroyed because of damage sustained when the Twin Towers fell. The collapse of the buildings left the site overwhelmed. Thousands of volunteers came to Ground Zero to help with the rescue, recovery and clean-up efforts, and on May 30, 2002, the last piece of WTC steel was ceremonially removed. About 3,000 people from all over the world died Around 300 New York firefighters died About 260 passengers and crew on board the four crashed airplanes were also killed.

9/11/2001 Pentagon At 9:37 hijacked Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagons’ western front. At the time of impact, the hijacked plane flew at 530 miles an hour. 53 passengers,6 crew members, 25 military and civilians on the ground where killed “At first I thought I’d blown up the fax machine. . . . And then I realized that it wasn’t me. I smelled the jet fuel.” -Louise Rogers a civilian accountant working for the U.S. Army in the Pentagon, recounts the explosion at the Pentagon.

The Aftermath “The search is under way for those who are behind these evil acts. I’ve directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.” —U.S. President George W. Bush On Sept. 20, 2001, President Bush delivered the “War on Terror” speech, which would eventually lead to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It ushered in a new generation of policies like the USA Patriot Act,  prioritizing national security and defense, often at the expense of civil liberties. A drastic rise in patriotism for our country, all throughout the U.S. Brought all United States citizens together, no sense of political conflict, separation, anger, …

Quote's after 9/11 “September 11 is one of our worst days but it brought out the best in us. It unified us as a country and showed our charitable instincts and reminded us of what we stood for and stand for.” – Senator Lamar Alexander “Remember the hours after September 11th when we came together as one to answer the attack against our homeland. We drew strength when our firefighters ran upstairs and risked their lives so that others might live; when rescuers rushed into smoke and fire at the Pentagon; when the men and women of Flight 93 sacrificed themselves to save our nation’s Capitol; when flags were hanging from front porches all across America, and strangers became friends. It was the worst day we have ever seen, but it brought out the best in all of us.” – Senator John Kerry
