What is it like? Bowles is a unique venue where young people can be inspired.  They will be challenged yet safe, and cared for whilst having the independence.

Abernant Lake Hotel Residential April 2017

Abernant Lake Hotel Manor Adventure Former hotel with a good standard of accommodation.

Shared rooms housing 4 – 6 beds. En suite showers. Girls and boys in separate corridors. Children of opposite gender not allowed in each others rooms. Children choose a friend to share dorm with. Children need sleeping bag and pillow case. Staff sleep in same corridors as children. Children aware of which rooms these are. First aid room on site. First aider on call 24 hours.

SAFETY Rospa inspectors assess activities. AALA License

All instructors check equipment. All instructors have First Aid training. All equipment is of good quality – constantly being replaced and upgraded.

Radio linked activities Children always in pairs All activities except cycling and hill walking are within Abernant Lake estate. Activities offsite have double the number of instructors.

Beans, beans, beans, beans, beans... Cooked breakfast daily. Choice of options at each meal. Vegetarian, vegan, nut and other allergies, special diets (lactose intolerance, coeliac etc.) all catered for. Just let us know on medical form. Please speak with me if you have any concerns.

Please ensure you include details of Tetanus injection. Medicines (including eczema creams etc) must be handed into staff. Children should keep their own inhalers – spares given in to staff. We will be responsible for dispensing medicines.

Please make sure your child is aware of the items they have in their case. Practise getting the right kit together for different activities at home! Vending machine money – please provide a maximum of £5.00 in coins. The children are responsible for looking after this themselves.

Kit list - it is essential children are provided with items as stated on list – they can get very muddy! PLEASE ensure children’s clothes are labelled. If they get muddy, they can otherwise be very difficult to identify! Please make sure your child has suitable clothes and footwear for wet activities – no crocs, wellies, flip flops please. Please provide tatty old clothes including shoes you won’t mind falling to the bottom of the lake! No jeans for water activities. Please refer to the list ‘What to wear on sessions’ for details

Departure date – Monday 3rd April 2017 10 am. Arrive at school by 9.30am (can be earlier.) Children need to wear red school jumper/cardigan They will need a packed lunch with a drink in a sealed container (not a fizzy drink.) If your child suffers from travel sickness and takes medication please administer this at the appropriate time before departure and send enough tablets for the return journey. We will stop for a comfort break at Magor Services and then for lunch at the National Visitor’s Centre in the Brecon Beacons. Here we will inform the children of their dorms and activity groups. They are guaranteed at least one friend The children need one clearly labelled suitcase/travel bag – they will need to carry this themselves from the to the coach to the hotel (5/10 min walk.) One clearly labelled suitcase and pillow case Return date Friday 7th April We will leave at 1.30pm after lunch and should be back around 4.30/5pm.
