Stingrays

Diet Stingrays eat a variety of foods. They can eat bundles of sea worms, shrimp and clams. They may also eat soft shelled animals too. They like to take molluscs and small fish.

Predators Sharks, seals, sea lions and large species of carnivorous fish along with humans.

Habitat They live in coastal waters shallower than 60m(200ft), often burying itself in sediment

Breeding Stingrays breed during the winter and the female stingrays give birth to live young usually between 5 and 15 baby stingrays, know as a litter. The baby stingrays develop inside the mother stingray for around 9 months and feed off the remaining yolk in their egg sacks. When this runs out, the baby stingray are feed with milk in the uterus of the female stingray. When the baby stingrays are born, they are able to swim about and begin hunting with their mother.

Size and weight Stingrays can reach 16.5 feet (5 meters) long and weigh up to 1,320 pounds (600 kilograms).
