Thank you! http://cstproject.ca/training-support/information-students-and-faculty General questions- Heather.Straight@phsa.ca VCH- go-live specific questions- Lisa.Bower@vch.ca

CST Project Update System Integration Testing starting in July; formal announcement of go-live dates expected once complete Engagement activities ramping up June through August Education commences September 5, 2017

CST Education Challenges: Numbers of users in many roles are small; cannot pull sufficient users from the floor to fill classrooms Result: more classroom space and more instructors to accommodate smaller groups Both classroom space and instructors are at a premium Learning is most effective when role-based and workflow- based

CST Education Solutions/opportunities Combine people in similar roles in the same classroom for self-paced practice activities Provide self-paced practice activities tailored to individual roles and workflows Prepare instructors to answer questions pertaining to all practice activities Instructor and Peer Mentors available in room to answer individual questions Group students will likely complete CST education as a group, covering specifics for student access Preceptor students to complete CST education with their preceptor. Student specifics to be covered separately. Faculty education to be determined Students will have similar functionality to regular user, but typically require authentication of documentation. Medication administration may also be restricted.

CST Blended Learning Model Nursing, Allied & Provider Sustain Advance Integrate Reinforce 1 – 4 Months After Immerse LEARNING PHASE Prepare 1 – 3 Months After Go Live 0—1 month 3 – 6 Months Before Starting 3 months before go-live Computer Literacy Online Courses Workflow Rehearsals Elbow Support Model Pre-requisite for Classes REQUIRED Released T-3 months 2 hours, comprised of short (~15 min) online modules Released 3 months prior REQUIRED at Unit Level for Nursing and Allied Required for Providers (2-3 hours each) Simulation or role play within interdisciplinary teams Cerner eCoach (LearningLIVE) Advanced Education Ongoing Education Practice Changes Department Level education including: Debriefs Hot topics Key workflows Team based Interdisciplinary New staff, provider, and student education Remediation education Ongoing optimization education New functionality and upgrade education development/delivery Train domain maintenance Just-in-time access to ‘how-to’ in Cerner, available within Cerner PowerChart & FirstNet solutions Unit Level Education: EHR Basics (15 minutes each) Introduction to the Electronic Health Record Privacy & Confidentiality in EHR environment Cerner Basics Navigation Specialty Specific Content & Requirements TBD BLENDED LEARNING MODEL Cerner Demos Personalization Fair In-person or eDemos by clinical care area or department REQUIRED for Providers 2 –hour, starts 2 weeks before go-live Includes: 1:1 support and learning refresher, including account configuration, set-up of patient lists and notes templates. Classroom Sessions Tools & Resources REQUIRED Start 6 weeks before go-live Workflow Based Baseline of 8 hour for Nursing* 4 hours for providers Allied TBD Includes Competency Assessment Quick reference guides Refresher cards eLibrary Website with learning materials Mobile friendly resources Skills Sharpeners Skills Check-Offs Self-Paced Practice Group Education Monthly/Weekly Hot Topics *Some specialties will require additional hours of education due to complexity ex: ED Nursing Competency Support Additional support for users who don’t initially meet competency requirements Learning Labs Drop in open hours and staffed closer to go-live Communications Department Leaders/Medical Affairs – Education Tracking and Completion Reporting Registration & Scheduling

The CST Classroom Experience eLearning Foundational eLearning completed before classroom Approximately 1-2 hours, depending on the specialty Developed in short, 15-minute modules Classroom Flipped Classroom: Self-paced for greater flexibility and 4:1 Learner support in classes to facilitate self-paced learning Decreased classroom hours with more touch-points* Nursing: 2 hours of eLearning, 8-hour classroom time (up to 12 hours for some specialty areas), and on-the-unit learning for general inpatient nursing unless specialty areas Allied: Fewer hours required than nursing. Exact hours TBD with clarity on role, go-live scope, and workflow requirements Providers: 4 hours of provider classroom time (for general areas), 1-2 hours of eLearning, and 2-3 hours of Workflow Rehearsals for each provider. Complemented by multiple touch points for learning enforcement and skills practice eLearning Flipped Classroom *Hours are estimated to optimize learning, however will be refined with scope refinements.

On-the-Unit Education More on-the-unit education with skills sharpeners and skills check-offs for nursing and allied staff Workflow Rehearsals (simulations) will provide hands-on practice run of scenarios typical for individual units including admission, patient care, transfer and discharge Learning Labs for open eLearning hours as well as supported practice Personalization Fairs for providers for targeted 1:1 to reinforce skills before go-live Practice Peer Learning *On the unit modalities such as workflow rehearsals need to be further explored and refined at the site level as they have large impacts on site operations.

Students during Coastal go-live Thank you to everyone for being flexible! -Accommodation of some groups -Challenges with nursing preceptorships due to staff being peer mentors -Additional requests will be assessed on an individual basis -Will try to match training for when it works with school group

Academic updates How are you preparing faculty and students about information and communication technology (ICT)?
