VCU GLOBE CULTURE SHOW Huyen Nguyen

Project Summary

What & Why VCU Globe Culture Show Focus on traditional clothes and music aspects of culture around the world Count toward co-curriculum event Designed to help VCU Globe students to gain more cultural knowledge to increase their global competency skills Developing students’ talents during the show

When & Where One week after spring break Date and time will be announce depending on the academic schedule and other school activities In Commonwealth Ballroom at VCU Student Commons

Who All VCU students can signup for performance individual or groups Event management: One Globe faculty Four Globe GAs Three Globe students volunteer

Rationale

Addressing Problems VCU Globe never organizes a culture show before Most VCU Globe event is usually focusing on one culture each, preventing students to have an overall experience Culture show is a great event that allow student to experience the fun while learning knowledge about cultures, addressing the main concern of VCU Globe

Beneficiaries VCU Globe students will benefit from attending and perform in the event Gain unique insight toward the diversity within VCU Globe and the whole university in general Broadening their global competency throughout the program

Resources

Available Resources Place Committee meeting office Commonwealth Ballroom VCU Student Commons Committee meeting office VCU Globe conference room

Needed Resources Personnel Director of the program: VCU Globe faculty to over see the program MC: GA, good at communication and have sense of humor Registration and process: GA, already helped to run an event before Technical support: GA, able to carry heavy stuffs and take pictures Decoration and fliers: GA, artistic minds Helpers: Globe students, running necessary errands Equipment: sound system is already installed in the room Supplies: fliers, ribbon, posters, others Supplemental: light snacks and refreshments

Goals & Objectives

Goal #1 To increase global competency level for VCU Globe students Objective #1.1: to allow VCU Globe students to see unique insights of different culture fashion and music and the diversity of the university and VCU Globe Objective #1.2: to help VCU Globe students form interested in studying cultures around the world

Goal #2 To effectively use the event as the place for VCU Globe students and volunteers express their talents Objective #2.1: to grant VCU Globe students and other students to sign up for the performance in the show Objective #2.2: to let volunteers to shine out their talents and enjoy the show

Method

Primary methods Reservation the room ahead of time to secure the place Process of advertising the event in VCU Globe building and school buildings

Timeline Step 1 Finalize the decision and information regarding to the event Step 2 Seek for helps and assign position, reserve the room Step 3 Spreading the words and collect volunteers Step 4 Running auditions, putting everything in place for the event Step 5 Event starts and evaluation after

Evaluation Plan

Evaluation Form Survey Is not anonymous, have option to not write down names Answered in scale from 1 to 10 in which 1 is the worst and 10 is the best Comment section 2 Barnes & Noble gift cards for two random surveyors completing the survey on time

Questions & Concerns Whether VCU Globe students acknowledge the diversity of VCU Whether they are interested to the show and would like to repeat next year Whether the process and registration is convenient and fast Whether they enjoy the event and find out new things about their own cultures

Expense & Funding Source Decoration materials: $30 Light snacks and refreshments: $50 Survey’s prize: $20, $10 for each gift card Funding source VCU Globe program grant because this is a VCU Globe event for the benefits of VCU Globe students
