Space Economy Awareness of the benefits of space economy on the growth and sustainable development of nations Space technologies and infrastructure linked to various sectors Economic rationale for the continuous support for space activities at national levels Capacity‐building prioritised in space science and technology as a key asset for a sustainable future.

Awareness of Space Benefits for Growth and Sustainable Development Space is increasingly seen as a contributing lever for economic growth, social well-being and sustainable development. In 2015, global space activity reached $323 billion (US) The annual growth rate for the Space Sector was 4.4% over the last ten years (2006-2015) Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Employment of Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) Research and Development (R&D) Innovative and advanced manufacturing capabilities Increased Trade Opportunities Contribution to GDP of +$2.8 billion +10,000 directly employed, +25,000 employed in the overall economy. (BERD) in Canada over $146 million Space Manufacturing is 6X more R&D intensive than the national average. Canadian Space Sector Export Revenues +$1.6 billion or 30% Economic Benefits

Space Technologies, Infrastructure, and Innovation Innovation in space lays the groundwork for a scientific and technologically diversified economy. Optimal utilization of the space sector is a driver for socioeconomic development providing employment, security, and growth opportunities for established and developing nations. Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan aligns with UNOOSA priorities: 1 People 2 Emerging Technologies 3 Grow Companies and Clean Growth
