State Scholarships Eligibility • 4-H Club & Foundation - Senior Year of High School Only • Indiana 4-H Youth Development Accomplishment Résumé – Applicants must be in grade 10, 11, 12 • National 4-H Congress – Applicants must be in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 at the time of application. • Scholarships not based on financial need or academic achievement

How to Apply • Complete and submit the up to 4 page State 4-H Foundation Senior Year Scholarship Demographic Application Form for 4-H Foundation Scholarship - Senior Year and National 4-H Congress Trip • Indiana 4-H Youth Development Accomplishment Résumé Scholarship only – submit a 1-page cover letter, a 1- to 2-page life skills résumé related to that category, and a demographic/application page. • Complete and submit a separate application for each scholarship and trip. • No pictures on original applications. • Completed applications are to be submitted electronically in PDF format through 4HOnline website or delivered to the County Extension Office on an electronic storage media device (flash drive, etc.) • Note specific requirements on information page for each Scholarship/Trip. • Before applying for a trip, be certain you can participate if chosen. • Minimum font size 10 and no more than the 4 pages will be read. • Finalists in the Indiana 4-H Youth Development Accomplishment Résumé Scholarship will participate in an interview with a selection committee.

4-H Club Scholarship Req. Must be attending Purdue University in: School of Agriculture College of Human Health Sciences (specific courses are required see packet) Scholarship is based on: 4-H Record of Achievement (clean copy) High School records Financial need Application should be neatly typed

Accomplishment Scholarships (8) Categories Animal Science – Meat and Milk Production Animal Science – Companion and Small Animal Production Citizenship Communications Engineering and Technological Sciences Health Living, Food and Nutrition Science Leadership Development Plant and Environmental Sciences

Accomplishment Scholarships Premier Categories Premier Achievement Premier Citizenship Premier Leadership Must have demonstrated life skill development across multiple areas.

Accomplishment Scholarship Demographics Form If applying for more than one category: Fill out all info except category, project list, and signatures. Submit each separately. Fill in Area X, Category, Project List, and Signatures. Project list – Start with most relevant to the category

Accomplishment Scholarships Can apply for three. Can only apply for Premier Categories if you have received a $1,000 award. Choose Category Select 3-4 life skills Fill out Demographics Form 1 page Cover Letter 1 page Résumé

Accomplishment Scholarships Tips Use worksheets to help you think it through. Write out a draft copy. Be specific. Have another person check it for spelling. Schedule an appointment with Sthele or Robert to help you. Don’t wait until the last minute allow time to turn it in.

Accomplishment Scholarships Honors Not completely necessary, may leave off if don’t have room. List 4-H Related Honors first. Honors related to that project category first Start with highest honor Don’t list ribbons and trophies. i.e. “I won Grand Champion Steer 4 times at my county fair. List Non 4-H Honors if you have extra room or if they are directly related to the project category.

Accomplishment Scholarships Judging Criteria Completeness Name, etc. Adequately Describes Skills and Accomplishments Future Goals Stated Clarity of Information Skills and Accomplishments Easily Understood Specific and to the point Neatness Content Expanded on Skills and Accomplishments No Fluff

Accomplishment Scholarships Life Skills What have you learned through this 4-H project? (Don’t simply copy for the next category) List 3 if they are strong ones. List 4 if only one or two are strong. Life skills should be appropriate for the category.

4-H Scholarship/Trip Application Form Complete All Information. Make several entries for which scholarship or trip for which you are applying. Check that you have required signatures in a timely manner.

4-H Scholarship/Trip Application Form (15%) Career plans 4-H Influence Work Experience Utilizing 4-H experiences in the future Life Skills

4-H Scholarship/Trip Application Form (50%) 4-H Projects, Activities, Offices, Awards Ranking of Information. Most relevant and important first Usually highest to lowest (N, S, C, L) National , State, County, Local 4-H activities only. Completion Pins. Use only one line, and then only if you have room.

4-H Scholarship/Trip Application Form (35%) 4-H Leadership, Citizenship, and Community Service. Leadership, Citizenship, and Community Service with groups other than 4-H. School Church Other youth organizations Sport teams Etc.

Resume/Cover Letter *Résumé/Cover Letter Activity Sheets* Pay Attention to format and spacing.

What have YOU done? Résumé Worksheet Life Skill #1:____Organization________________ List specific illustrations of this life skill: 1. Scheduled dates, times, and room locations for 3 elementary schools to provide 4-H promotions. 2. Secured presenters and obtained school releases and transportation for presenters.

Résumé Use a Professional Format Neat and typed Center your Name and Address at Top Three Sections Skills and Accomplishments Future Goals Honors Bullet vs. Paragraph Stick with same format throughout Keep it as short as possible 2 pages maximum, 10 point font minimum

Résumé Skills and Accomplishments List the same Life Skills as in your Cover Letter. List the Strongest Life skills and Examples First Life Skills should Relate Directly to that Project Think about each of your Life Skills How have I learned it? How do I use it? Why is it a strength? List Specific Examples of each Life Skill.

Résumé Future Goals Try to refer to life skills. Be brief. List long term or short term goals. Can relate to: 4-H Schooling Career Etc.
