National Cancer Programme A national programme that covers the Ministry of Health, DHBs, and regional cancer networks Focus is on implementing the government’s priorities for cancer High-level annual work plan and six monthly monitoring of progress (include health target)

Faster cancer treatment – a patient pathway approach

Indicators referred urgently with high suspicion of cancer receive first cancer treatment within 62 days referred urgently with high suspicion of cancer have first specialist assessment within 14 days confirmed diagnosis of cancer receive first cancer treatment within 31 days of decision-to-treat

Current performance limited data available shows that time taken varies across all indicators 14 day: median time taken is between 14 and 21 days for lung cancer patients in Midland 62 day: 23 percent achieved for cervical cancer patients in Northern 31 day: 23 to 67 percent achieved for bowel cancer patients in Midland

Implementation phased implementation 2012/13: baseline data collection 2013/14: performance against 14 and 31 day indicator 2014/15: performance against 62 day indicator

Implementation approach National development of: data definitions tumour stream pathway and standards development MDM and care coordination models Regional implementation: data collection service re-design and optimisation of clinical cancer care pathway
