What is Feminism? Feminism – the theory of political, social, and economic equality of men and women. 1960s is often referred to the 2nd wave of feminism. When was the 1st? Most women who worked during WWII, gladly gave up their jobs and returned as housewives… By the 1960s, that changed.

NOW helped pass… The Equal Rights Amendment – an amendment that would guarantee gender equality under the law. Proposed in the 1920s but never passed.

1960s Women’s Movement average approximately 60% In 1960, women earned on average approximately 60% of what men earned (same experience and skill) In 1963 Congress passed The Equal Pay Act. In the 1950s, women in the workforce was 30%, by 2000, it was 60% (about the same today)
