Does anyone remember the 2004 hurricane season? What do you remember about it? How did you and your families prepare for the hurricanes that hit Florida?

Hurricane Charley August 9 to August 15

When Hurricane Charley made landfall near PUNTA GORDA it was a category 4 storm.

Worst Hurricane to hit Florida since Hurricane Andrew (of course that was before the other 3 hurricanes hit). Hit Florida Friday the 13th. Orlando Airport recorded a wind gust of 105 mph! 8 people died 15 billion dollars in damage

Hurricane Frances August 25 to September 8

When Hurricane Frances made landfall near Sewall’s Point, Florida it was a category 2 storm.

Frances affected the central regions of Florida just three weeks after Hurricane Charley. Slow moving storm. 7 people died. 8.9 billion dollars in damage

September 13 to September 28 Hurricane Jeanne September 13 to September 28

When Hurricane Jeanne made landfall Hutchinson Island, Florida it was a category 3 storm.

6.9 billion dollars in damage. 9th costliest storm. 5 people died. It was difficult to isolate this from damage caused by Hurricane Charley and France.

September 2 to September 24 Hurricane Ivan September 2 to September 24

When Hurricane Ivan made landfall in Pensacola, Florida it was a category 3 storm.

Hurricane Ivan was the size of the state of Texas. Spawned 117 tornadoes across the eastern United States. 54 people died. 14.2 billion dollars worth of damage.

Something's to remember… The overall damage caused by all four hurricanes to Florida was 45 billion dollars. Topical storm Bonnie hit Florida the same time as Hurricane Charley. All four hurricanes hit Florida in about 2 months.

What did you think was the worst hurricane to hit Florida? What did you do through any of the hurricanes? Have any of the hurricanes changed your life? What do you think the hurricanes’ impact on Florida was?
