Victorian style History: The Victorian era of the United Kingdom was the period of Queen Victoria's reign from June 1837 until her death on the 22nd of January 1901. It was a period of revolution both industry and transport and all the technology such as electric light bulb and phonograph. During the Victorian Age some innovative movements started, such as: democracy, feminism, trade unions, socialism, Marxism. Darwin’s ‘theory of evolution’, explained in The Origin of Species (1859). Victorian interiors Victorian interiors in Victorian era are famous for orderliness and ornamentation. A house from this period was neatly divided in rooms, with public and private space carefully separated. In addition, the Parlor was the most important room in a home and was the showcase for the homeowners; where guests were entertained.

Victorian interiors The dining room was the second-most important room in the house. The sideboard was most often the focal point of the dining room and very ornately decorated.

Furniture: There was not one dominant style of furniture in the Victorian period. Designers rather used and modified many styles taken from various time periods in history like Gothic, English Rococo, Neoclassical and others. The Gothic and Rococo revival style were the most common styles to be seen in furniture during this time in history. Furniture of the Victorian era had some characteristics: It was large in scale. Victorian furnishings have complicated, detailed designs and carvings that were inspired by nature. Ornamentation was seen in carved scrolls, leaves flowers and grapes.

Victorian rocking chair was a favorite item of many Victorian furniture fans, and over the years, this piece was updated and reinvented to be more practical, rather than simply decorative. Victorian chair were designed with the large, puffed cushions to create a royal impression, making one feel almost as if he or she were seated on a throne. parallel to the chairs, beds and tables also characterized by large proportions and highly sophisticated designs. Victorian style furniture also include the use of a wide variety of woods. However, very few pieces of Victorian furniture integrate the use of metal.

Walls Walls were still often divided into separate sections which were they dada, infill and frieze, and each part given a different treatment. Walls in Victorian homes were covered by paint or wall paper. The choice of paint color on the walls in Victorian homes was based on the use of the room. For example, hallways that were in the entry hall and the stair halls were painted a somber gray so as not to compete with the surrounding rooms. Most people marbleized the walls or the woodwork. Wallpaper were usually designed of the day featured large patterns of flowers, birds or feathers.

Floor: Floors in Victorian interior were made of hardwood and were covered with Oriental rugs or large pattern area rugs. Window: Victorian’s window had all types such as sash, casement, Gothic, French, to suit architecture. Also, stained glass were used in domestic buildings. Window treatments were very elaborate like shutters, window Blinds, window Curtains.

Materials Victorian era had many materials that were used in their architecture and interior. Stone, terracotta, slate, tiles, and brick all were used for both purpose. However, wood was extremely used in the interior. Fabrics such as velvet, brocades, damask, velour and mohair, Wall paper also used.
