CLEAN Products with Feces Trap For superior comfort, performance, and skin health 25.5.2011

Objectives: Improved wearer comfort Improved skin health Reliable product performance Consumer affordability 25.5.2011

How CLEAN pants or diapers can help: Excellent sealing: intimate contact between leg hoops and upper thighs Excellent body fit: product components connected by „darting“-type connections Feces are trapped: Leg hoops fit high in the crotch crease, such that they can lift up an attached feces trap sheet to the anus Lean product and process design: 100% material usage and multi-lane manufacturing options allow affordable pricing 25.5.2011

This presentation answers the following questions: How can CLEAN articles be assembled cost efficiently? How easy is it to put the product on? How do they fit the wearer, and keep the skin clean? What is the impact of the new assembly technology on the manufacturing system, particularly on line capacity? 25.5.2011

BOCO CLEAN products - low cost making: designed to use 100% of their raw materials; no trimmed off pieces; made of low cost materials smaller number of different materials, compared to conventional products 25.5.2011

- Cost Efficient Assembling: The Backsheet Side - -in a first step, the leg hoops are fed by a „cut and space“ unit -as a next component, the backsheet is provided -with another FLEXIBOND connection, the backsheet is connected to hoops and sidepanels, whereby the backsheet side is completed -in a further step, leg hoops and side panels are connected to each other where they overlap, via „FLEXIBOND“ bonding technology -in a second step, left and right sidepanels are provided such that they slightly overlay the leg hoops 25.5.2011

- Cost Efficient Assembling: The Topsheet Side - -Elastics are fed in between the 2 topsheet pieces, where they overlap. The elastics are fixed by the spiral or spray glue -the topsheet, consisting of 2 pieces - each one slightly wider than one half of the centre piece width - comes in as first component on the topsheet side. Glue (beads and spray or spiral) is applied on one of the topsheet pieces 25.5.2011

- Assembling the Topsheet Side - -next, the topsheet is partly covered with glue -finally, some glue on the core makes the topsheet side assembly ready to be combined with the backsheet side -the core is laid down onto the glued topsheet -the topsheet, consisting of 2 pieces - each one slightly wider than one half of the centre piece width - comes in as first component of the topsheet side. Glue (beads and spray or spiral) is applied on a topsheet piece.Stretched elastics are fed in between the 2 topsheet pieces, where they overlap. The elastics are fixed by the spiral or spray glue around a slit in the combined topsheet. The non-glued elastic areas are held in the channel formed by the glue beads connecting the 2 topsheet halves 25.5.2011

View from topside, combined product - „in process“ condition -“pickup glue“ beads or points are applied -closer to the centreline in about the middle -and slightly outwardly further back in the product topsheet halfes elastics slit elastic glue 25.5.2011

View from backside, combined product - „in process“ condition Leg hoops sidepanels core 25.5.2011

-after cross directional folding, the product can be packed -the assembled article is folded along two longitudinal foldlines towards the topsheet side, thereby engaging the „pickup glues“ 25.5.2011

by unfolding the product and closing the fasteners BOCO CLEAN products are easy to put on: by unfolding the product and closing the fasteners around the wearer‘s legs, the feces trap sheet is moved to the right position BOCO CLEAN products fit perfectly even when loaded: „belt-like fit“ around waist and legs keeps product up and close to the body anchoring of the feces trap sheet to the leg hoops ensures accurate positioning, for a clean skin 25.5.2011

erected leg hoops unfolded sidepanels by unfolding the side panels, the leg hoops are errected and stretched, thereby lifting up the feces trap sheet 25.5.2011

BOCO CLEAN Article, ready to be put on a Wearer - backside view of open product - 25.5.2011

BOCO CLEAN Article on a Wearer - look at left inner leg - -anus -left inner leg Due to the action of leg hoops and the pickup points, the feces trap sheet is pulled up against the skin of the wearer. There are no extra efforts required to bring the opening in registry with the anus. -slit in topsheet -elastic in -feces storage 25.5.2011

BOCO CLEAN products can be made „Side by Side“ more than one product of a size can be made side by side simultaneously products with different waist circumferences can be made side by side simutaneously see also GB2475590(A) for reference 25.5.2011

Assembly - Impact on line capacity - CLEAN product: narrow while in process wnew Conventional product: side panels and ears in an open position until the product is completely assembled i. e. it is wider while in process wconv 25.5.2011

Assembly - Impact on line capacity - wnew w D wconv Width w is saved in process. This allows to multiply line capacity! D 25.5.2011

Assembly - Impact on line capacity - 2 or a standard line can make one product at a time, or 3 or more 25.5.2011
