ILC will announce on the intercom what happened on Cinco de Mayo and why Mexico Celebrates that date. May 8-12 STAAR testing ILC Windows will be decorated with “You can do it” banners Students will be STAAR Testing May 15-31 End of Year Activities ILC windows will be decorated with reminders to turn books in. Also, Summer public events and activities will be posted for students and staff to know. The ILC will be doing inventory of all library books. Students will be returning all books. Returning April 27, 2017 SYNC will give away two complete audiobook downloads May 12th Secondary Battle of the Books Activities: The student competitions are usually similar to the TV series Family Feud or Whiz Kids styles of competitions. Each middle school will have a team to compete for first place Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for student in elementary, middle school. And high school. Students read books and come together usually in groups to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read May 15th Library Ambassadors Field Trip Activities: Student who have served as library ambassadors for the 2016-2017 school year will be going on an educational field trip to South Padre Island. This student group has volunteered their time and talents all year to assist in library activities and programs. Their assistance is essential at the Solis Library. They will visit local organizations while establishing connection to their educational curriculum. May 17th Distinguished Readers Club Field Trip Activities: Student who have reached the million word mark through the Accelerated Reader program and kept an 80% average will be attending a field trip to San Antonio These students have met an incredible goal. Their high achievement will be celebrated by visiting the Witte Museum. This incentive will also establish connection between museum exhibits and their educational curriculum.

May 1-12 School Staff Celebration In celebration of National Teacher, School Nutrition Employee, School Nurses and Custodial Appreciation Day, books about school related careers will be on display. May 1-26 Kids!@your library bookmark contest Contest Students will design a bookmark with the theme “So much to see. So much to do. @ your library” A committee of staff members will select the winning bookmark and it will be published and made available to students in September 2017. Book display of bilingual books and books about Mexico. 5/8/-5/12 Don’t Stress the Test   Activities Students will participate in activities for fun such as magazine reading, puzzles, newspapers, games to release stress throughout the week of STAAR testing. 5/15-5/26 Wrap up the Year Activity Students will return all library books and materials.
