Vocational Leadership and Agents of Change: Elon Musk By Jesse Martinez

Vocational Calling Originating from the Latin translation for calling, a vocation is a profession that an individual is naturally drawn to by the congenital skills and learned traits that they hold. The phrase originated in Christianity, but is now widely used in secular circles globally.

Elon Musk Born June 28, 1971 in South Africa with Canadian-American heritage. He is the founder of SpaceX, Tesla Inc., SolarCity, Zip2, Neuralink, The Boring Company, and PayPal. Chairman of OpenAI, inventor of Hyperloop, Estimated worth of $13.9 billion, 80th richest man, named 21st most powerful person.

Musk’s Vision Through his companies, SolarCity, Tesla, and SpaceX, Musk has a goal of changing the world and humanity. Specifically, through reducing global warming through renewable/sustainable energy and reducing the risk of human extinction.

Tesla Inc. Tesla is Musk’s motor company designed to fight climate change through eliminating the need for fossil fuel powered motors, energy storage, and solar panels. The strategy of this company is to bring luxury experiences in an electric car that is affordable to the average consumer. The Tesla Model 3 is set to be released this year at $35000. Compared to the 2017 Jeep Rubicon priced at $38500 for example.

SolarCity A branch off of Tesla, and the largest solar energy provider in the U.S. The strategy of the company is to sell solar energy to customers below the price of utility rates, while decreasing the cost of solar simultaneously. Changing the world and helping humanity through its impact on climate change.

SpaceX In the case of human extinction through the destruction of Earth, Elon Musk has created SpaceX to advance humans to the multiplanetary scale. This would be achieved through the construction of colonies on Mars and would significantly increase the probability of humans surviving for many more millennia. The company currently focuses on reducing the cost and increasing the efficiency of space travel through reusable rockets. "It'll be, like, really fun to go," Musk said. "You'll have a great time."

OpenAI This company is focused on defending the world from the singularity and distributing AIs to the masses to dilute a central concentration. OpenAI defends by promoting the production of friendly AIs used to benefit humanity as a whole.

Neuralink This is Musk’s newest company which information about was recently released in March 2017. It focuses on merging humans with technology through implantable brain-computer interfaces. The first goals of the company involve tackling neural disorders such as epilepsy and depression.

In Conclusion Someone has to think about the big picture.
