KS1 MATHS TEA PARTY. WELCOME KS1 MATHS TEA PARTY! WELCOME! PLEASE GET YOURSELF A DRINK AND A CAKE & SIT TOWARDS THE FRONT 

WHAT IS THE LENDING LIBRARY? Maths games loan service – ‘game packs’ that will be lent out to the children to occasionally replace the traditional homework. Get all the children and family involved and having fun with sums and problem solving. Games have been made with the Lancashire Maths team and I(Maths coordinator). Tailored to the KS1 curriculum and seek to practise key skills and quick recall of facts within the year group expectations. Pupils will have ample opportunities to play them in Maths starters, continuous provision, Maths lessons and as homework. The most and memorable learning takes place when it is fun! Children will want to play these games over and over and over again! 

Lending Library!

WHY START ONE? Working parents- we appreciate it is hard! Avoid battles and struggles Ultimately to get children to want to do their homework Great family games- play with the neighbours, family, independently, siblings, grandparents and even friends! Motivate the children to want to play them- might not even realise they are applying and learning maths! Parents can feel like they can help with homework and be involved Boost children’s confidence and attitudes towards homework and Maths! ‘Learning together, supporting each other’

Quick recall of basic facts HOW WILL IT HELP? Confidence Self esteem Quick recall of basic facts Motivation Enjoyment Fun Real life contexts Problem solving Parents!

HOW WILL IT WORK? The children will be allocated a maths game to take home. This will be recorded by a member of staff in our lending library book. The children need to bring their games back with their homework books on Wednesday. A member of staff will sign the pack back in once the game is returned and we will check all the parts of the game to make sure all components and resources are returned in the condition they were lent out in to ensure they can be continually enjoyed by all. May be a cost of £2 for missing, lost or damaged components that cannot be re-used.

HOW WILL I RECORD IT? These homework games are very practical and your child may not need to record anything in their books. However, we would like you to write a comment in your child’s homework book stating which game you have played, the duration of time played for and a comment to let us know how your child found it. You could take a photo of your child playing the game and put it in your book/facebook page if you would like to. Or even get the children to tell us how much they enjoyed playing them! 

Addition, counting, number bonds, place value, even x tables! (10s) HARDER: The number on the dice you roll are how many tens you have. Eg 3 and 4 30 + 40 =70 Place a counter on 7 dots- 7 tens. Why are the dots arranged the way they are? (Eg 11 is the same as 5+5+1) Ideas? Easier: Make 12. Roll a dice- Which one can you never place a counter on? Why?

IS THIS IN EVERY YEAR GROUP? Class 2 and Class 5 initially Have fun whilst learning Prepare for SATs in a fun way!! Trail and see how it runs Consider whether we use as a whole- school approach Your feedback welcomed and appreciated 
