Women entrepreneurs share their motivations, personal drive and business inspirations with you. Rusia (Uganda) “I have learnt a lot. The skills you develop as you overcome the challenges of growing your business are priceless. I find that the biggest challenge is that some women still look down on certain types of jobs. They forget that most of the successful global businesses started small. If we change our attitudes, then each woman will be empowered globally. There are enormous indigenous opportunities around us and in our communities that can change our lives.”
Women entrepreneurs share with you how they manage their company’s budget, revenue and expenses, and how they became credit worthy. Olivia (Nigeria) “I had a bank account, but maybe in a whole month, I didn’t go to the bank. I was using money from my sales on myself and my family. There was no separation between the business account and my personal account. Everything was just muddled up.” … “Now my bookkeeping is excellent. We put the day’s money in the bank every evening before the bank closes, no matter the amount. “
Women entrepreneurs describe different business models and the key elements of business operations. Chunhong (China) “I faced numerous obstacles, including a lack of business experience, meagre start-up capital, lots of indifference and skepticism. Since I couldn’t afford the rent, I had to convince the industrial park managers to let me install my toilets in their buildings in exchange for free rent for 6 months. This deal paved the road for my business’s stability and eventual growth.”
Women entrepreneurs share key information about sales and marketing, and how to add value to products and services. Susan (Tanzania) “It is impossible to travel by road between many major cities in Africa – including some in the same country! Despite this, just 20% of air traffic on the continent is African. That means travellers often have to go to Europe or the Middle East for a connecting flight to another African country. That is where my business comes in – by providing professional, high quality services to private aircraft. VIA Aviation fills a growing need in the market. I have plans to expand the business to more than 20 countries throughout Africa.”
Women entrepreneurs describe how they manage their employees and business partners, and expand their business networks. Lina (Jordan) “Self-defense empowers women. It increases their physical strength, but more importantly, it raises their self-esteem. I have watched women and girls who felt powerless transform into confident leaders. We are well on our way to reach our goal to help empower three million women in the Middle East by 2020. Our Training of Trainers programme trains SheFighter students to share their self-defense skills to women living in rural areas, in my opinion the women who need our programme the most.”
