Industrial Revolution By Cesar Quich & J.P Eder

I.R originated in Great Britain The Industrial Revolution began in Britain for a number of different reasons. Britain had access to a number of natural resources, such as iron and coal. The agricultural sector of the British economy had been steadily growing during the 18th century. Agricultural stability allowed the British population to increase.

The Agriculture Revolution The English Farmers accelerated the process of fencing off, or enclosing, common into individual holdings, largely for the benefit of the already wealth landholders. Farmers combined small strips of land to form larger holdings that were more efficient for large- scale farming. The need need to feed its own people during the Napoleonic Wars also made it necessary for Britain to increase its food production. The enclosure movement reached its height in the early 1800s in Great  Britain, when a growing population increased demand and raised prices for agriculture product.

The Textile Industry The first step toward mechanization came with the improvement of the loom for weaving cloth, a loom is set up with a series of threads, called the warp, strung from top to bottom. In 1733 an engineer named John Kay invented the flying shuttle, a cord mechanism that moved the woof thread more rapidly through the loom. James Hargreaves, a poor English weaver, came up with a machine in the 1760s that he named the spinning “jenny,” probably for a member of his family, This machine could produce eight times as much thread s a single spinning wheel.

Transportation John McAdam worked out a new way of building roads that improved travel conditions, the roads that he built were called macadam roads. They also built canals for transportation, workers constructed many canals, this canals were built between 1760 and 1850, although canals were cheaper and slightly faster than roads, new forms of transportation soon began to compete with the canals. In 1814 a guy named George Stephenson, and English engineer, perfected a steamed propelled moving engine, or locomotive that ran on rails. In 1829 more railroads were built all over the world and began to connect them. In 1839 Samuel Cunard found a company named Cunard Line shipping, provided regular steamboat service across the Atlantic. Soon ships built of iron and steel instead of wood moved goods all over the world in less time and for less money than ever before.

Communications Electric Telegraph uses electric signals to send communication via radio or line. The most important device during those days used by editors in newspapers. The use of this telegraph is almost the same as electric telegraph. The first telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell. This device allowed people to communicate with other people living in a longer distance.
