Training Objectives: You will learn the importance of Emergency Management in your jobs How to survive a disaster Experience and understand what steps to take when you are involved with an active shooter incident Define various shooting situations List measures that can be employed to reduce the effectiveness of an active shooter Describe actions that can be expected from responding law enforcement officers Safety tips

What is Emergency Preparedness?

Definition: Emergency preparedness is the managerial function charged with creating the framework within which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. Vision. Emergency preparedness seeks to promote safer, less vulnerable communities with the capacity to cope with hazards and disasters.

Know the risks Know your region The consequences of emergencies can be similar, but knowing the risks in your region can help you better prepare What is an Hazard Vulnerability Assessment?

Common misconceptions: Most emergencies are short-lived I won’t ever have to deal with an emergency where I live There are a lot of emergencies I just can’t prepare for Preparing takes too much time

Workplace Emergency An unforeseen situation that threatens your employees, customers, or the public, disrupts or shuts down your operations, or causes physical or environmental damage.

Emergency Preparedness Essential elements of emergency preparedness planning: • Identify hazards and assess risk. • Assess capabilities and resources. • Develop an emergency plan and procedures. • Integrate the plan with the community plan. • Conduct training. • Public relations. • Conduct Drills and Exercises. • Develop Plan Audit Procedures.
