GREENVILLE K-5 Magnet School

Greenville K-5 Magnet School 9315 Jack Finney Blvd. Greenville, TX Home of The Rockets! Launching August 2017

Why STEM for GISD? We witness throughout each campus students who excel in math, science, and technology. These students need an outlet to grow their abilities, and thrive in an environment specifically created for their skill set.

Why is STEM education important? FUTURE: STEM education driven innovation and economic growth and is essential to move our nation forward. JOBS: STEM occupations are projected to grow by 17% from 2008-2018, compared to 9.8% growth for Non-STEM occupations. ALL STUDENTS: STEM education can substantially benefit students of all grade levels, backgrounds and learning abilities. REAL WORLD: STEM allows application in all subject areas through projects designed for students to solve problems and gain real-world insights. (A Blueprint For Building A STEM Program, 2015)

With STEM education students will… Build confidence and critical thinking skills Allow students to apply knowledge in all subjects into the engineering process Acquire new technology skills to enhance learning. Connect STEM challenges to real-world problems and future job choices.

You might be a STEM kid if… …you are 8, and Home Depot is your favorite place to shop. …you see failure as a stepping stone to success … the recycle bin is your “go to” place for materials to create your latest invention …in frustrations, you see innovation …a problem becomes an adventure in finding a solution …you are the “tech support” for the adults in your home …you can solve a Rubik’s Cube without peeling off the stickers … the excitement of Science Fair keeps you awake at night …you beg for anyone and everyone to give you math problems to solve … you dream about ways to change the world

GISD K-5 STEM Magnet School will offer: An additional choice for a quality GISD educational experience Faculty with a STEM mindset Fully staffed with Gifted and Talented certified teachers Rigorous curriculum with hands on, creative, real world application experiences Open enrollment Tuition Free 1:1 technology for students Partnerships with community
