In 2011, we decided to fully shift to e-direction, with very limited print collection on demand. Right Physical Sizing, which many established libraries are trying now through shared storage etc, wont be an issue for us in the future.

It was started by book vendors or aggregators and when we analysed different licenses, all of them were about barriers – you cant do this, you cant do that etc etc. AT KAUST we prefer seamless access to resources and campus wide. Other drawback of those models were, you pay more when the usage increases, same multiple copy model of the print books. We started contacting the Publishers directly, where they were thing of not using this option. Camebridge University Press collaborated with us to experiment the first Publisher offered PDA with us. Then Wiley was also offered this option. We have used the usage of their products, to analyse the final cost – then compared with their huge discount and purchased the full package. Key Issues for E-Resource Collection Development (IFLA, 2012) focuses on key aspects of the e-resource process in libraries. doesn’t cover acquisition, delivery and access management, promotion of resources, reading device, user training and support etc. Traditional criteria, subject, level, target audience still apply.
