MATCH REPORTS The following are the match reports for Round 7. Under 6’s Played – Queanbeyan United Blue 16 - 16 Draw On Sunday the youngsters played out a thrilling 16 all draw against the Queanbeyan Blues. Our tackling has come on in leaps and bounds. It is god to see that we like to get our wall set and chase down the other team to make a tackle. Good running from all the boys and girls this week, we used what we learned at training on Thursday and went forwards instead of backwards.   Whilst everyone played well this week a special mention must go out to Patrick, who improves every week, Will who is always tenacious and to Harry who was back to his dazzling best this week.     Zig Under 7’s Played – Yass 16 – 16 Draw     This was the first game that coach Billy left the field to let the boys to run the show themselves and they responded fantastically. It is a testament to how everybody has trained that we matched a team whose coach did not leave the field! The boys have all started to talk and keep the Rams wall together, and call their runs. Joe Egan was a standout in defence and Juwan had a great game in attack. Well done boys.

GLR Financial Solutions Looking After Your Financial Life 6162 2555 Under 8's Played – Queanbeyan United Blue 12 – 28 Loss Sunday saw what most were tipping to be the game of the season. After a late change in the draw, the Rams played against Queanbeyan Blues. These two teams are both known for their tough matches against each other and everyone was excited to finally have a tough game on our hands.  Nerves were high both on and off the field.  The boys put in their best effort on Sunday against the Blues and were unlucky in the end not to come away with a win. This was our first loss for the season and some of the boys put a bit of pressure on themselves and nerves seemed to get the better of them on the day – we need to remember it’s only a game and that as long as you do your best, that’s all that matters. It was great to see the boys passing well to each other and trying to back each other up. We still need to make sure we run onto the ball and also get onside with the ref (take one step back like Scrumpy tells you). We also need to make sure that we pass out wide, if we do this we will go even better in the games. The boys need to listen to the directions Scrumpy is giving them during the game and not to everyone else on the side line just to save confusion. If they listen to Scrumpy they’ll be able to play an even better game and will be able to do the set moves that they learn on a Thursday night. Congratulations to Emmanuel for getting this weeks Man of the Match – he did some amazing tackles that would make any coach proud. Make sure you rug up this weekend as we head to Cooma for our match. Under 9’s Played – North Canberra Red – no result/report available HALLAM HOMES - 0413-865015 GLR Financial Solutions Looking After Your Financial Life 6162 2555 Under 10’s Played – Queanbeyan Kangaroos White 38 - 4 Win The boys arrived at a wet North Curtin oval looking to continue their good form and make it 3 wins in a row. They also had a bit of a different game plan with the team being split into positions and all hoped this would add to the team’s attack. The result speaks for itself and this was the first time the boys were trying to use forwards and backs. To their credit they stuck to the game plan of hitting a few runs up the forwards then spreading the ball along the backline. A few times the communication fell down and we got back into old bad habits of crowding the dummy half but on the whole it was a great effort in implementing a game plan. The boys are really starting to see the advantage of getting the ball wide after the other team’s defence is sucked in to the middle and when our centre’s and wingers stay wide to get the ball they have plenty of space to run and set up supporting players. It’s a real plus to see the team realizing that team tries are easier to score than running one out. A very pleasing aspect once again was the team’s defence. We knew the ref had a very strict policy of anything above the armpits would be penalized and again on the whole the boys tackled low and helped each other out. Dredgie made the point to the boys after the game that we received another 42 FREE tackles with the ball because Queanbeyan had given away 7 penalties for high tackles. Everything is coming together well as the season heads into Round 2 this weekend. This is also a good test of where the boys are at because we are playing the ladder leaders West Belconnen. We think the boys have come a long way since the first game of the year where we led Westie’s at half time only to drop off in the 2nd half. If the boys train well this week we think we can match them and come away with a win, which will not only cement our place in the Top 3 but also give us a bonus with the bye the following week. Man of the match was again a difficult task due to the team effort, but Mick Ryan was a deserving winner after another great game out wide causing plenty of trouble to the Roos defence.

Played – Belconnen United 28 – 4 Win – no report available Under 11’s Played – Belconnen United 28 – 4 Win – no report available Under 12's Played – Tuggeranong Buffaloes 22 – 10 Win   Great game boys!  It was fantastic to see us put our minds on the job and we were rewarded with a win against the Buffaloes. Although we have a BYE this weekend, let's keep that focus working for us as we get set to come up against each team for a second time. Let's put all our skills to work each and every game and come home strong for 'round 2'. We scored 4 tries for the day:  Zac 2; Sean 1; Pat1. Goals (3 from 4):  Zac; Liam; Jackson. Woden and Batemans Bay Under 13’s Played – South Tuggeranong Red 28 – 4 Win An eagerly awaited top of the table clash with the Rams winning comprehensively. The stage was set with Daniel, Scott and Jack T dominating the Red pack. Most of the metres where made done the middle which made it easy for the halves Jed and Simon to dictate the play. Jake and Reuben worked well together in the forwards and Dean organised the runners well from hooker. Seb was a powerhouse close to line coming up with two tries. Defence was outstanding especially from the outside backs Jesse, Jason, Ben and Jack M close to line. George backed up Daniel and scored a great try. Connor tackled hard and had some great runs down the flank. Jason made a try saving tackle and scored a try as well. Pat was a handful every time he touched the ball. Another impressive win. Go the mighty RAMS. Under 14’s Played – South Tuggeranong Knights 28 - 22 Loss Boys - another pretty exciting game. I think you will all agree that we could do a lot better, and have to improve before we come up against the Knights in the Finals. It was a pretty miserable day, but remember that the Knights were playing in the same conditions. This week I think we will need to focus on some one on one defence, looking at what is in front of us and taking the right options, and our shape in attack. Solid efforts this week from Stevie D, Tyson, Mitch and Gus. Zane also had a good first up game for the season. Cheers, Adam and Country
