Plan, Do, Review Child-initiated play sessions. Children free-flowing and can choose from all learning areas in the foundation base. Adults record observations from children’s play and move them forward in their understanding using questions and suggestions.

Literacy Taught daily – 10 minute class input then children taught in small groups. Cross-curricular, creative activities related to topic. Example Activity – using family pictures to draw a picture of family and talk about who is in our family.

Handwriting Short sessions, 5 minutes daily. Cursive script taught. Practise at home in creative ways.

Maths Taught daily – 10 minute class input then children taught in small groups. Using concrete objects and games to learn the basic mathematical skills.

PE Sessions on Monday and Friday. Kit needed: house t-shirt, shorts, socks, tracksuit, trainers or plimsolls. No earrings to be worn on PE days.

Learning Journals Record of all child’s work including group work and child-initiated work. Homework Given out on Friday – written on the weekly Foundation newsletter. One piece of literacy/phonics and one piece of maths. Activities usually practical where possible.

Reading Books Given out once your child has learnt some basic sounds. Changed weekly. Children read with teacher/TA weekly. Reading records – please read with your child as much as possible and record in their reading record.

Wow Moments Yellow star given out weekly on a Friday. Parents write down something amazing their child has done. Returned to school to be stuck in learning journeys. Wow Moments Example

Coffee Morning A chance to meet other parents and discuss any issues relating to your child with our Pastoral Support Worker, Mrs Whitney. Any issues raised will be passed on to your child’s teacher. Notes from all coffee mornings will be sent to all parents, if you are unable to attend.

Super Seal and Top Turtle Child chosen daily at random from each class to be ‘child of the day’ – super seal and top turtle. Special helper for the day. Child talks receives a ‘compliment slip’ at the end of the day with a compliment from their teacher, their classmates and themself.
