Changes to Members of Staff Berrynarbor SCHOOL NEWSLETTER March 2017 Red Nose Day A big thank you for all the donations that we were given for Red Nose Day. A fabulous £117.40 was raised We sold 3 boxes of red noses! The School Council came up with some brilliant ideas: a tongue twister challenge, a coin trail, non-uniform day. NEWS Swimming Gala Well done to the children who took part in the Ilfracombe Swimming Gala. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to show how wonderful they are at swimming! Tag Rugby – Elderberry took part in a rugby tournament at Ilfracombe Rugby Club. The children had a great afternoon of team building and working together. They all played extremely well and showed true sportsmanship. Football Friendly - A number of children from Elderberry Class took part in a football friendly event held at Woolacombe School. We had a lovely day despite the weather, the children played very well indeed. A good time was had by all. Blueberry Class On 29th March Blueberry class performed their play Time Lord to a massive crowd of over 90 people. The children had a mammoth task learning lines that were complex as well as coping with numerous scene changes. They performed with gusto. It was amazing to see the buzz the children had when they finished the play and how they congratulated each other on their performances. The lead roles were taken by Dillon Haines (Time Lord Emit), Samara Blaize (Harriet) and Thomas Richardson (Sam). Beethoven was re-enacted brilliantly by Alex Walker. May Townsend became Boudicca (make sure you say her name correctly!). All the children sang their hearts out to catchy tunes and comedy songs, not forgetting rapping dinosaurs!  A massive thanks to Mr Newell and Sarah who not only painted the scenery but created a moving time machine which made the show seem that bit more professional. Thanks to all who helped in so many ways. Elderberry - Magistrates Visit Elderberry class enjoyed a visit from two of our local Magistrates at the beginning of this term.  We learnt about "British Values" and how our judicial system was established and how it functions today. The children had the opportunity to hear how a Magistrates Court functions and how it differs from the Crown Court. We took part in role play and had the chance to decide how serious a crime was. Perhaps one of the things the children found most interesting was the fact that Magistrates are volunteers.   Year 6 SATs Week After the Easter break our Year 6’s will be sitting their SATs on the week beginning May 8th.  All year 6 in schools across the country will be sitting them at the same time, so we wish them all the best.  Our Year 6 children have been working very hard over the past four years to be ready and we're sure they'll all do their best.  If you are a parent of a child in Year 6 and would like to know more about SATs then please come and chat with Mr Jones. World Book Day Berrynarbor stepped into the magical world of Myths and Legends for World Book Day. Children enjoyed a variety of creative activities. It was lovely that so many parents were able to join us and they were impressed with the way "children of all ages worked so well together". KS 1 Star Gazing The weather was kind to us so the children and their families were able to spend an enjoyable evening looking at the stars together. Many thanks to those who arranged the loan of some telescopes as that really enhanced the experience. Dinner menu The Summer Menu is attached. NB changes in the first week back. Wednesday will be Monday’s menu. Thursday will be roast (Wednesday menu) E-SAFETY It is important to keep track of what children are accessing online.
