Compendium of Sanitation Technologies in Emergencies Thorsten Reckerzügl Bremen Overseas Research and Development Organization (BORDA)

Aim Expert peer-reviewed overview of existing (and emerging) sanitation technologies and FSM options Multi-agency publication Covering the entire sanitation service chain Humanitarian counterpart to the existing “Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies” from EAWAG

Why a new compendium? No up-to-date compilation of sanitation technologies for emergency settings available Existing Emergency Sanitation publications with limited or no focus on entire sanitation service chain New framework conditions: Demand for LRRD approaches, longer-term protracted crisis, urban contexts, new issues (e.g. FSM) and sustainability aspects are more in focus

What it is Systematic sanitation hardware overview that covers the entire sanitation service chain Compilation of up-to-date (and emerging) technologies Capacity development tool Partly a decision support tool referring to key decision criteria and cross cutting issues that need to be considered What it is not!!! One-stop-shop publication that you can take to the field and that answers everything related to emergency sanitation A detailed design guide on how to build a system
