Dr. Seuss

Theodore Geisel was born March 2, 1904 Theodore Geisel was born March 2, 1904. When he was a boy his mother said rhymes to get him to sleep.

He grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The pictures in his book remind us of the town where he grew up.

And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street Springfield’s famous Indian Motorcycles

When he was in college he was editor of Dartmouth’s humor Magazine.

During the first years he worked he drew cartoons for newspapers and made advertisements.

His first children’s book was And To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street. He had a hard time finding someone to publish it. He was rejected 27 times before he found a publisher.

He married Helen Palmer He married Helen Palmer. After she died, he married Audrey Stone, who is still alive. He never had any children of his own. His wife said he was a little afraid of children. He never knew what they would do next.

People called him Ted, but he used the name Dr. Suess on his books People called him Ted, but he used the name Dr. Suess on his books. If someone else drew the pictures, but he wrote the words, he used the name Theo Le Sieg.

His books have been translated to more than 15 languages so people all over the world can enjoy them.
