9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11

Inheriting the Kingdom The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom: The sexually immoral Idolaters Adulterers Homosexuals Thieves The greedy Drunkards Revilers Swindlers Such were some of you. But you were: Washed (saved) Sanctified (on a new path) Justified (in right standing) By Jesus & the Spirit Inheriting the Kingdom

ADULTERY & FORNICATION Adultery = moicheia = the sin of a married person engaging in sex with someone not their spouse Fornication = porneia = sexual immorality = any other sexual act = sex between singles and more 1 Cor. 5:1-11 (man who “has” his father’s wife) Matthew 19:9 (grounds for divorce – from Jesus) God judges all fornicators & adulterers (Hebrews 13:4 and 1 Thessalonians 4) Male homosexuals (malakos & arsenokoites); lesbians (Romans 1:26-27) ADULTERY & FORNICATION

Who owns your body?

16Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6: 16-20

(Joseph & Mrs. Potiphar, Genesis 39) Sinning with another; against your own body Your body is His temple You are not your own; bought with a price Glorify God = worship & serve Porn stats = 70% of men 18-34 regularly; slightly lower 35+’: larger 11-17; women 1 in 3 pre-teen to mid-30s (largest group seeking addiction help); 12% sites; 35% of all downloads More activities Your Body = His Temple

1Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. 3The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self control. 6Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. 1 Corinthians 7: 1-6

Sex within Marriage Answering questions (marital abstinence?) “Not touching a woman” (KJV) = to set a fire Sex drive satisfied in marriage Mutual submission in the sexual side of marriage; authority over spouse’s body Primary application of the verse = sexual union Another application = togetherness; build intimacy Not a commandment, but a concession Mutual agreement; a limited time; for prayer Come together again OR suffer Satanic temptation Satanic tempt = porn; also affairs = 57% of men; 54% of women (but 68% say they would if not get caught) Sex within Marriage

The Only Satisfying Physical Intimacy Scripture praises sex within marriage. In fact, it is the ONLY sex praised in the Scripture. God’s purposes for sexual union in marriage: Procreation Communication Consolation Recreation The world reverses this order and disconnects sex from the commitment of marriage; enslaved The couple in the Song of Solomon depicts … The Only Satisfying Physical Intimacy

7I wish that all were as I myself am 7I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. 8To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. 9But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 1 Corinthians 7: 7-9

The Gift of Singleness “As I myself am” = single, happy, content “Gift” = charisma = spiritual gifts; “grace” A special giftedness to remain married A special giftedness to stay pure as a single Self-control (fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5: 22-23) Burn with passion (not the only reason to marry) The Gift of Singleness

FOR TODAY’s CORINTHIANS Don’t destroy God’s temple (your body & soul) for the sake of sex. Two becoming one is the goal of marriage. Prepare for marriage by building intimacy of the mind & heart & soul – God’s way. If divorced, did you stray from God’s plan? Are you practicing self-control or are you giving in to the “burning”? Don’t play games with God, or with another person’s feelings. Do not withhold your body from your spouse If self-control is a problem, come to Celebrate Recovery. FOR TODAY’s CORINTHIANS
