Things you can do to help your child this year. Send your child with a backpack daily. Look in your child’s backpack daily. Help your child with their homework daily. Read with your child 25 minutes a day. Encourage your child to talk about school. Please make sure your child attends school on time daily.

Classroom Donations The following items are used regularly throughout the year. We greatly appreciate donations of these items at anytime. **Glue Sticks** Tissues Lysol/Clorox wipes Paper Towels Pencils Dry Erase Markers Fine Tip dry erase markers Sandwich bags (zip top) Snack bags (zip top) Gallon sized bags (zip top) Ream of white paper Notice: The items on this list will be used during the regular school day.  They may be brought from home on a voluntary basis.  Otherwise, they will be furnished by the school. There are a few things that can distract from learning in the classroom, such as pens, markers, pencil sharpeners, and toys. We appreciate your help in having your child keep these items at home.

Birthdays We will celebrate students’ birthdays in our class. Students with summer birthdays will be celebrated the last few weeks of school in May so the class can recognize them as well.  Parents are welcome to send birthday treats to share with the class at the end of the school day.        Guidelines from the Health Department mandate that any treat has to be store bought and in the original wrapping. Due to allergies, nonfood items are preferred (pencils, stickers, erasers, book donation to the class).

Homework Homework will come home every Monday and is to be worked on throughout the week then returned on the following Monday. This will include math and language arts review pages. Students should be reading 25 minutes each night. A reading log is in their homework folder for recording their minutes.

Read 100 hours in Second Grade Each student is encouraged to participate in our 100 Hours of Reading. For your child to meet this goal they will need to read 25 minutes each day.  Your child might want to read in two sessions a day: 15 minutes after school and 10 minutes before bed. Fill in the record sheets with the minutes you child has read each day rounded to nearest 5 minutes.  Sign the sheet before you send it back to school each Monday in the Skyhawk folder, (so you can count weekend reading). There will be mini goals each term of 25 hours, students who meet these mini goals will be able to attend a reading party at the end of each term.
