Title Certified Public Accountant (CPA) A CPA is a certified public accountant who is licensed by a state board of accountancy. A CPA license is the accounting profession’s highest standard of competence, a symbol of achievement and assurance of quality.

Education CPAs must have passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination and have met additional state education and experience requirements for certification as a CPA. These usually include holding a Bachelors’ Degree and a minimum of two years’ experience in public accounting.

Skills for cpa ☺ Knowledge of Accounting principles and Auditing procedures and techniques, cost accounting, financial and estate planning. Ability to select relevant tax or Accounting rules, to apply analytical skills, to operate business machines, to prepare complete and accurate Accounting reports, and to keep up with changes in government laws and regulations. Familiarity with the uses of computers in tax preparation and accounting, accounting software, budget analysis, and business mathematics.

Job Duties Maintain and audit company financial records. Oversee budget and financial management. Perform duties related to audits, taxes, and financial planning. Create and analyze budgets. Act as a consultant in areas such as compensation, benefits, and asset protection. Oversee accounts payable and receivable. Forecast revenue and analyze ledgers. Participate in strategic planning, fraud prevention, and budget development.

California State Board of Accountancy Other information 1.U.S. Citizenship Requirement At this time, there is no requirement that California CPAs must have U.S. citizenship. However, all CPAs must have a United States Social Security number in order to get a license. 2. Foreign Students—A Different Set of Rules What if you are a citizen of a country other than the United States, and you want to become a CPA in California? If you are not a licensed CPA in a foreign country, you will face a different path to a California CPA license. 3.
