Identifying Underserved Populations People with Physical Disabilities People with Cognitive Disabilities People with Economic Disadvantages Aging Population Easily addressed by adding 55+ categories to existing programs

People with Physical Disabilities It is estimated that 38,123 people with vision, hearing or ambulatory disability resided in Charleston County in 2011* People with Physical Disabilities * Extrapolated from 2010 US Census, does not Include institutionalized nor active duty military disabled individuals. It does include veterans.

People with Cognitive Disabilities It is estimated that 13,736 people with a cognitive disability resided in Charleston County in 2011* People with Cognitive Disabilities * Extrapolated from 2010 US Census, does not Include institutionalized nor active duty military disabled individuals. It does include veterans.

People with Economic Disadvantages It is estimated that 66,388 people lived below the poverty level in Charleston County in 2011* People with Economic Disadvantages People who have a disability are 68% more likely to be below the poverty level. * Extrapolated from 2010 US Census, does not Include institutionalized nor active duty military disabled individuals. It does include veterans.

2012-13 What we are doing now…. Adaptive Recreation & Sports Special Needs Recreation & Sports Economically Disadvantaged Community Activities: Kayak, Canoe & SUP Rock Climbing Paralympic Sports: Archery Community Activities: Canoeing Rock Climbing Dances & Murder Mystery Event  Special Olympic Sports: Kayaking team Waterways Connection - Canoe Trips connecting youth to their environment (Modeling the 2012 ACA grant project).

Goals for 2012-2013 Get Access-ABILITY Program Skeleton / structure onto CCPRC Website Information about the program b. Regularly scheduled events c. “Preliminary Booking and Information” button for custom programs (just like for the Challenge Course). 2) Become listed in all possible Disability Resource directories. 3) Advertise program (including news / press coverage) 4) Other Outreach to local organizations 5) Create an focus/advisory committee of residents who have a disability or parents of residents with a disability to provide feedback
