SLOs Assessment Reporting – Trend Analysis

Trend Analysis…

Trend Analysis… From Excel spreadsheet, program faculty can create dashboards to show impact on student learning over time.

Trend Analysis…

Data Management & Institutional Reporting Degree program AIIRs and Trend Analyses submitted annually – 1st Monday in November for previous academic year SLOs assessment Data added to master database - Excel Institutional Report – annual Common variable of analysis - Percentage of students assessed in degree programs that achieved the student learning outcomes (SLOs) designated “criterion for success”. Levels of analyses – Institution-Wide by College College by Academic Unit Academic Unit by Degree Program Generation of pivot charts Executive summary/academic unit summaries

Accreditation Built-ins Various accreditation features are built-in to degree program planning and reporting documents/spreadsheets AIIAP – alignment component to TWU mission, department/school mission, degree program mission, program SLOs, and integration throughout the curriculum. Trend Analysis - “Closing the loop” was developed to provide a snapshot of several years’ data, along with actions taken for improving student learning over time – Differentiation of degree program delivery modes and campuses in SLOs assessment performance data Use of “best practices” in assessment to guide development of robust degree program assessment plans (i.e., multiple measures)

A Work in Progress – Developing a Culture of Assessment Takes time… Ongoing and meaningful work Focus on improvement of student learning My role – to serve as facilitator of SLOs assessment to “sit down alongside”/mentor Assessment education Via one-on-one sessions, departmental sessions, workshops Providing guidance to other academic initiatives (i.e., high impact practices) Provision of ongoing, formative feedback In person, track changes, email, and/or phone

A Work in Progress… Curricular intervention or research study to improve student learning in lieu of annual reports (i.e., Nursing) Provision of academic assessment professional development opportunities Presenting at assessment conferences with department chairs and faculty Academic Assessment Faculty Fellows Program – leadership opportunity Work on assessment projects Become further educated in the discipline of assessment Participate in national conferences in academic assessment Be able to serve as an assessment leader within departments, schools, and colleges

A Work in Progress… Integrated periodic program review Expansion of Office of Academic Assessment Key use of SLOs assessment data To inform curricular and pedagogical changes To inform budget decisions…data-driven decisions Assessing our degree program assessment system October 2016 – Create and conduct a 5-year comprehensive review of the TWU Academic Institutional Improvement Assessment System

Future TWU Directions Conduct a 5-year comprehensive review of the TWU Academic Institutional Improvement Assessment System – focus on process, product, and culture Integration of core and degree program SLOs Building upon core foundation through integration of core objectives into degree program student learning outcomes Seek additional funding to provide recognition, incentives, and opportunities in academic assessment Fund micro grants on improving student learning Showcase exemplar assessment activities – department/school Sharing with others – Assessment Day Offer competitive awards/incentives Establishment of an Academic Assessment Advisory Council to advise and guide future assessment initiatives
