Arrival and Dismissal Arrival- Students may enter the classroom at 7:15. At this time, they will put their things away, make their lunch choice, and begin morning work. Morning announcements will begin at 7:30. At 7:45 Students will be expected to have completed their morning tasks and begin their day. Being on time is critical to a smooth start of their day. Dismissal- Students are dismissed at 2:30 on a regular school day. Half day dismissal time is at 1 1:00 a.m.

Transportation Changes… If your child’s transportation changes, please send in a written note that morning. I cannot take your child’s word for it. I often can’t check my email until the end of the day. If there’s an emergency and you need to change transportation mid- day, please call the office before 2:00.

Field Trips Nissan in December to tour production plant. MTSU basketball game in December September-Opryland to tour their “Civilization” and see how they make the place work! Camping Overnight trip

Photographs/ Social Media If you attend a school function and take pictures, PLEASE send them to me. I will share the ones that I can. However, please do not post them to social media unless the photo only contains your child. There are certain students who are not allowed to be photographed. Thank you for understanding.

STEAM Night We will have 4 STEAM nights this school year to showcase our engineering projects. The first STEAM night will be late September. Please watch newsletters and Email for final date.

Bloomz Behavior Monitoring We use an app called Bloomz to input behavior, post pictures and updates, and arrange conferences. If you have not received a link to Bloomz via email please let your child’s homeroom teacher know. Students are expected to follow the 3R’s and be role models for younger students. Not following those expectations will result in point deductions on Bloomz, laps at recess, notes or phone calls home, and for serious or chronic minor offenses a visit to the principal.

Why read?

Homework Reading 20 minutes per night Skills for intervention Morning work if not finished during class

Grading We are on a 9 weeks schedule at Murfreesboro City Schools. There will be mid-term progress reports each grading period. Grades can be checked using your parent login and the Skyward system. We will take several grades for each standard. If a student makes below a 70 on an assignment they will be given the opportunity to retake the assignment for partial credit. Work that is not turned in on time will receive a penalty. Failure to turn in an assignment will result in a zero for that assignment.

Snack Students may bring a snack to have before lunch. Snack is expected to be healthy and small in nature. Please do not send in complete meals for your child’s snack. Also refrain from sending overly sugary or messy snacks. Students are allowed to have water bottles at their work area at all times. There is a water fountain in the room to refill the water bottle when needed. Please refrain from sending other drinks or flavored packets.

Lunch/Breakfast We will have lunch each day at 12:30. All students will receive a free breakfast and lunch each day. However, there are snacks/ice cream for students to purchase at lunch. If you send in money for your child to purchase an item, please send it in either a bag or an envelope labeled with the child’s name and the amount of money. Loose change will not be accepted without envelope or bag.

School Nurse We are extremely fortunate at OCE! We have a full time nurse available. However, her main responsibilities are assisting students with severe medical conditions. Last year we had over 1,000 more nurse visits than any other school. She can only send a student home if they are vomiting or have a fever. Students will not be sent to the nurse with minor complaints.

Happy Birthday! Invitations Invitations to and/or reminders regarding personal parties will not be distributed at school unless they are given to every child in the class. Treats Feel free to send in treats to celebrate your child’s birthday. However, please be mindful of student allergies. Individually wrapped treats are best.

Volunteers We love volunteers! We are looking for volunteers from many different backgrounds. If you would like to help our 6th grade team please let us know what your skill set is, and we will find a place for you. Some of the areas of need are: 1. making copies 2. working with students one or one, or in small group 3. helping from home (cutting lamination, making things, etc.) 4. Help with clubs, (drama, music,, crafting, nature, etc.) 5. Sending in needed supplies

Summer Reading If you completed 2 books for summer reading, we will need a summary turned into your homeroom by Friday, September 1. A one paragraph summary per book read is all that is needed.
