Birth Control Methods

This information does not give you permission to go have sex. is designed to give you an overview of what the most commonly used methods of birth control are and how people use them incorrectly.

Goals Students will identify 2 methods of birth control that provide some protection against STIs. Students will identify steps to proper application of a male condom. Students will know the difference between barrier methods and internal methods. Students will develop awareness of other birth control methods. Health ed standard #6: STD and Pregnancy prevention.

True or False The birth control pill will protect a girl from a STI? 90% of heterosexual couples that do not use a form of birth control will get pregnant in 1 year. True! A condom is 100% effective against pregnancy. FALSE! It’s 85%, people mess up putting it on.

Barrier Methods Place a physical barrier between sperm and egg. Some methods provide some protection against STIs Male condom and female condom
