WELLNESS FOR WHATEVER DENISE CAMP ALWF, CPRS, RPS NAMI ANNUAL CONFERENCE OCTOBER 15, 2016 DENISE CAMP ALWF, CPRS, RPS WRAP® PROJECT COORDINATOR/ TRAINING SPECIALIST ON OUR OWN of MARYLAND

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

WRAP® stands for WELLNESS RECOVERY ACTION PLAN

WRAP ® IS PRESENT IN MORE THAN 10 COUNTRIES THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 8 EVALUATIONS OF WRAP ® AS AN EVIDENCED-BASED INTERVENTION, INCLUDING IN NEW ZEALAND AND SCOTLAND MORE THAN 26 STATES HAVE IMPLEMENTED WRAP ® INITIATIVES WRAP ® IS RECOGNIZED BY SAMHSA’S NATIONAL REGISTRY OF EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES

THE BIG PICTURE WRAP® is based on lived experience It is individualized – the only person who can write your WRAP® is YOU It is ALWAYS voluntary It is a plan to get well, stay well, and move towards whatever one wants in life. Can be used for anything

HOW DO YOU DEFINE WELLNESS ? FOR WHAT ISSUES WOULD YOU LIKE TO IMPROVE YOUR WELLNESS?

YOU CAN USE WRAP® AS A TOOL TO ADDRESS ISSUES LIKE… Chronic or Acute Illness Additions Losing Weight Getting or changing jobs Going back to school Working on relationship issues PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING

Copeland’s 5 Key Concepts of Recovery Hope Personal Responsibility Education Self Advocacy Support

WRAP® HAS 7 PARTS WELLNESS TOOLBOX DAILY MAINTENANCE PLAN TRIGGER & ACTION PLAN EARLY WARNING SIGNS & ACTION PLAN WHEN THINGS ARE BREAKING DOWN & ACTION PLAN CRISIS PLAN POST CRISIS PLAN

THE WELLNESS TOOLBOX IN IT ARE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO KEEP YOURSELF WELL AND HELP YOURSELF FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE NOT WELL

THE WELLNESS TOOLBOX WELLNESS TOOLS ARE: SIMPLE SAFE FREE (OR LOW COST) READILY ACCESSIBLE FUN NON-INVASIVE

DAILY MAINTENANCE PLAN OUTLINE WHAT YOU ARE LIKE WHEN YOU ARE WELL LIST THE THINGS YOU NEED TO DO EVERY DAY TO STAY WELL LIST OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO DO TO STAY WELL DEFINE THINGS TO WORK ON TO IMPROVE YOUR WELLNESS

TRIGGERS TRIGGERS ARE THOSE THINGS THAT HAPPEN OUTSIDE YOURSELF THAT MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE/UNWELL USE ITEMS IN YOUR TOOL BOX TO DEVELOP AN ACTION PLAN TO DEAL WITH THE TRIGGERS

EARLY WARNING SIGNS THESE ARE THOSE INTERNAL SIGNS AND BEHAVIORS THAT LET YOU KNOW THAT THINGS ARE TAKING A TURN FOR THE WORSE – “YELLOW FLAGS” IDENTIFYING EARLY WARNING SIGNS CAN HELP “HEAD THEM OFF AT THE PASS” THEN WE DEVELOP AN ACTION PLAN USING OUR WELLNESS TOOLS TO HELP US FEND OFF THESE EARLY WARNING SIGNS.

WHEN THINGS ARE BREAKING DOWN THIS TERM DEFINES THOSE SIGNS AND BEHAVIORS THAT LET YOU KNOW THAT THINGS HAVE GOTTEN SERIOUS AND NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. AT THIS STAGE, YOU ARE STILL ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. THE ACTION PLAN HERE IS VERY SPECIFIC.

CRISIS PLAN A CRISIS DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN A HOSPITAL STAY IN CRISIS, YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR OR TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF A CRISIS PLAN IS LIKE INSURANCE: BETTER TO HAVE IT AND NOT NEED IT THAN TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVE IT ALLOWS YOU TO DEFINE WHAT WILL AND WILL NOT BE DONE AT THIS TIME THE CRISIS PLAN HAS 9 PARTS

POST CRISIS PLAN AFTER A CRISIS, THINGS TYPICALLY DO NOT GO RIGHT BACK TO NORMAL THIS IS A TENDER TIME ALLOWS THE TIME AND SPACE TO DO WHAT IS NEEDED TO GET BACK ON TRACK ALLOWS TIME TO THANK THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED YOU THROUGH THE CRISIS ALLOWS TIME TO LEARN FROM THE CRISIS AND MAKE ANY NECESSARY CHANGES ALLOWS TIME TO PREVENT FURTHER REPERCUSSIONS FROM THE CRISIS ALLOWS TIME TO KNOW WHEN TO RESUME RESPONSIBILITIES.
