Presentation transcript:

The topic of the lesson: "Paralinguistics" “Thought is the blossom, language is the bud, action is the fruit behind it” (R.Emerson)

The aim of the lesson is speaking about the significant role of paralinguistics in communication. The tasks are: To determine non-verbal means of human intercourse that transmit information; To check up your knowledge of the words and word combinations which refer to the topic of the lesson; To name the levels of non-verbal communication.

Paralihguistics, body language, kinesics, verbal, non-verbal, communication, gesture, human intercourse, reflexive, movement, message, physique.

Action do speak louder than words. The way you move, smile and look at others can make the difference between professional success and failure.

Linguist Edward T. Hall says that 60 to 75 percent of the meaning of any conversation is buried in non-verbal language.

Body language

Kinesics Kinesics / Body language is a combination of any non-reflexive or reflexive movement of a part, or of all the body, used by a person to communicate a message to the outside world.

Gesture is any action that sends a visual signal to an onlooker.

The rainbow connection Why are there so many songs about rainbows And what's on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, And rainbows have nothing to hide. So we've been told and some choose to believe it I know they're wrong, wait and see. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me. Who said that every wish would be heard and answered when wished on the morning star? Somebody thought of that and someone believed it, and look what it's done so far. What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing? And what do we think we might see? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me. All of us under its spell, we know that it's probably magic.... Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one and the same. I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.
