and Microperimetry visual field parameters for Glaucomatous Loss Structure-Function Correlation using OCT-derived Macular Ganglion Cell measurements and Microperimetry visual field parameters for Glaucomatous Loss in Macular region of Eyes with Normal Tension Glaucoma Handan Akil M.D.1, Tudor Tepelus Ph.D.1, Brian Francis M.D., M.S.1,2, Vas Sadda, M.D.1,2, Vikas Chopra, M.D.1,2 #PO091 AGS 2016  1 Doheny Image Reading Center (DIRC), Doheny Eye Institute, Los Angeles, California 2 Department of Ophthalmology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles, California Purpose Results Macular VF sensitivity (dB) and GCC thickness relationships were statistically significant in each sector (R= 0.348–0.567, all p<0.001) The highest correlation observed was between the inferotemporal average mean sensitivity and the inferotemporal average GCC thickness (R= 0.567) with both MP3 and OCT Strength of the structure–function relationship for each of the corresponding inferior sectors was higher than those for the corresponding superior sectors (p=0.002) X To evaluate relationships between OCT-derived macular ganglion cell layer measurements, microperimetry-derived macular visual field parameters, and conventional standard automated perimetry in eyes with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) Introduction Since macular function is critical to a patient’s quality of life, it is important to have valid methods to characterize structure-function relationships involving the macula in glaucomatous eyes. The macular measurements of GCC (NFL+GCL+IPL) thickness, as well as, GCA (GCL+IPL) thickness have previously been shown to be lower in glaucomatous eyes with visual field (VF) defects than in healthy eyes, and have comparable glaucoma discriminating power to that of circumpapillary RNFL measurements Macular GCA measurements have been shown to correlate with local VF sensitivity using standard automated perimetry Microperimetry, also known as fundus perimetry, assesses retinal sensitivity during the direct examination of the ocular fundus. Microperimetry data are independent of eye movements and exactly related to the stimulated area. In addition, VF sensitivity can also be measured by microperimetry with improved spatial localization. Figure 2. OCT-derived GCA analysis provides thickness measurements of inner retinal layers involved in glaucoma Conclusions Our current preliminary study showed structure-function correlation between OCT-derived GCC thickness and VF defects using microperimetry in the macular region Microperimetry VF testing takes less than half the time compared with standard central 10-2 VF testing which may reduce test burden for patients Future research will elucidate whether microperimetry may be better subjectively and/or objectively to assess macular function in patients with glaucoma compared with the conventional standard automated perimetry (24-2 SITA Standard and 10-2 Full Threshold) Larger investigations and validations are needed to confirm whether OCT-derived GCC thickness (structural measure) can be used for correlation with microperimetry (functional measure) in the evaluation and management of glaucoma involving the macular region Methods 20 eyes from eleven NTG patients from UCLA Doheny Eye Centers from Apr- Oct 2015 were included in this cross-sectional study For each patient, GCA was measured by Cirrus HD-OCT, static visual field microperimetry was performed using MP-3 (Nidek technologies) and standard 24-2 Humphrey visual field analyzer (HVF) (Carl Zeiss, USA ) MP3 Visual Field: Standardized 33 point pattern , Goldman III, Full 34db range, 4-2 threshold was used The relationship between the HVF and microperimetry was examined in superior temporal, superior nasal, inferior temporal and inferior nasal visual field regions within 10° visual field region The relationship between macular visual field and GCA was evaluated in six VF sectors with MP3 and optical coherence tomography (OCT) in retinal view Statistical analysis: SPSS for Windows version 18; SPSS Science, Chicago, IL; Descriptive statistics, unpaired T test and correlation analysis were done Figure 1. MicroPerimetry device employs 3D auto-tracking and auto-alignment of MP3 – potentially useful for longitudinal analysis Disclosures: All authors report no relevant financial disclosures.
