4 Specific Areas Literacy: Mathematics Understanding the World Reading Writing Mathematics Numbers Shape, Space and Measure Understanding the World People and Communities, The World Technology Creative Development: Exploring and using media and materials Being Imaginative
Characteristics of effective learning Class teachers will also assess the child's skills and abilities in relation to the three key characteristics of effective learning: Playing and exploring Finding out and exploring Playing with what they know Being willing to ‘have a go’ Active learning Being involved and concentrating Keeping trying Enjoying achieving what they set out to do Creating and thinking critically Having their own ideas Making links Choosing ways to do things
EYFS Profile Teachers will complete an EYFS profile for each child and will assess against: The 17 early learning goals (ELGs) The children will be assessed on a 3 point scale 1 - emerging 2 - expected 3 - exceeding
Opportunities for writing chalks letters phonics Opportunities for writing cards instructions fine motor control names
Early Learning Goal Writing Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Opportunities for Reading re-telling stories role play Information books Opportunities for Reading comics books listening to stories storytime The library
Early Learning Goal Reading Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
Opportunities for Mathematics ordering shapes Opportunities for Mathematics counting capacity measuring writing numbers weighing
Early Learning Goal Mathematics Numbers Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20 Place them in order Say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
Early Learning Goal Mathematics Shape, space and measures Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.
Transition into Year 1 The EYFS profile will provide year 1 teachers with background and context when considering the child’s next stage of development and future learning needs. The children will have the opportunity to spend time in the Year 1 classrooms There will be a transition phase in Summer 2 preparing the children for Year 1
