Typical CTE Credentials Awarded by USHE Institutions Certificates of Proficiency – less than one year to complete/16 to 29 semester credit hours Certificates of Completion – one year to complete/ at least 30 semester credit hours Associate of Applied Science Degrees – two years to complete/63 to 69 semester credit hours

USHE Institutions have Developed more than 100 New CTE Certificates Over the last several years, USHE CTE directors and others have: Assessed current CTE offerings in the region Submitted a regional plan to the state offices at the USHE, the Utah State Office of Education, and the Utah College of Applied Technology Identified certificates and other programs that could be offered in high‐demand, high wage occupations and that are important to the region Identified how these credentials will stack to additional certificates, associate’s degrees, or other programs Identified ways these programs, or portions thereof, might be provided for delivery in high schools through concurrent enrollment Developed an implementation plan Created more than 100 new CTE certificates

CTE CE Highlights for FY1718 CTE Area # CTE classes # institutionsoffering NEWS Agriculture 5 2 New class: USU/Intro to Landscape Architecture/aligns to Landscape Mgt CE. USU and Snow offer the Agriculture classes. Business 30 7 Students can choose from Intro to Business, Accounting, Management. Entrepreneurship/Leadership classes are new this year. Even though there are a number of pathways in Business, CE enrollments are mediocre. Family & Consumer Science 29 New classes: USU/FCSE 1140 and 2040/Intro Sewing and Intermed Clothing Construction/align to Sports & Outdoor Product Design I & II CE. Health Science 44 Medical Terminology is the only CTE class in the top 10 high enrolling CE classes. It serves as a gateway to Healthcare pathways. Information Technology 50 Computer Science (CS) 1030, 1400, 1410 are the first three classes CS majors take in college. This year, WSU, DSU, and Snow added CS courses so that the full sequence is available through CE. Marketing 10 USBE revisions to Marketing Strands and Standards resulted in lost of 40% of CE Marketing classes. OK. Take more Business classes. Technology & Engineering 48 Trades 173 New classes: Snow will offer Carpentry/Construction CE classes so student can build a house. Several institutions have added Digital Media courses so there are 3-4 course pathways. USBE Core Codes, at left, that start with 30 or a larger number are CTE classes. The Exploratory Majors Pathway encourages selection of the appropriate QL. Started with a rubric familiar to public education students: 8th grade College & Career Readiness class uses Holland Vocational Personalities to explore interest in different career paths. Utah Futures website allows students to save and revisit profiles throughout high school.
